Israel is a land of anguish and trouble, relying on sources of power and might for help, but find no resolve for their anguish and trouble.

“The burden against the beasts of the South.” Isaiah 30:6a

The beasts of the South refers to the beasts of the southern kingdom of Judah. In the days of Isaiah, the Israelites were divided between the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah, as seen on the right map below. The map to the left is modern day Israel. The beasts are described in the coming verses of this post.

Through a land of trouble and anguish, from which came the lioness and lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent,
they will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels,
to a people who will not profit; For the Egyptians will help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore I have called her
Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.” Isaiah 30:6-7

Through a land of trouble and anguish…” Today, it is obvious that Israel is a land of trouble and anguish. They have been in 19 wars since the year they were recognized as a State in 1948. Click for a list of those wars. They also suffer trouble and anguish from the global protests against them that takes place in cities across the world. They also suffer trouble and anguish from within the assembly of the United Nations. Even the Israeli citizens protest against their own government to contribute to the pressure of causing Israel governors to conform to the goals of the United Nations. From that land of trouble and anguish is where the beasts originate.

“…from which came the lioness and lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent…” That adds a further description of the State of Israel, from which came the lioness and lion of military aggression. Their military is like a fiery flying serpent with their jets, missiles, etc. That military came from their land of trouble and anguish. In their trouble and anguish, they rely on power and might instead of trusting God, through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit. “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.” Zachariah 4:6 Anguish and trouble are not washed away through guns, bombs, power and might, but comes through Jesus Christ, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Ezekiel refers to Israel as a lioness with lion cubs, “Moreover take up a lamentation for the princes of Israel, and say: ‘What is your mother? A lioness: She lay down among the lions; Among the young lions she nourished her cubs.” Ezekiel 19:1-2

“…they will carry their riches on the backs of young donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people who will not profit…” Donkeys and camels symbolize humility and endurance. That is in contrast to stallions and chariots used in war for speed and quick action. For Israel to carry riches on the back of young donkeys is to bring those riches in the spirit of humility to a stronger nation of military and political power. Israel brought those riches and treasures to the United States of America in the spirit of humility, with a long-term relationship in mind that would endure through the sands of turmoil and anguish. The riches and treasures of Israel would be their strategic location in the Middle East, which the United States covets. Those riches and treasures would also include and “inside track” to the Israeli government, Middle East intelligence, a war partner against the enemies of America, etc.

However, as Israel brought her riches and treasures to America, in an effort to seek help within their anguish and trouble within the Middle East, America is referred to by the Spirit of God as “…people who will not profit…” America will not profit by the treasures and riches brought from Israel. In other words, America is not strengthened by an alliance with Israel based on political and military power. In fact, we see more and more direct military involvement by the United States of America, within the Middle East, in order to defend the homeland. The wrath of God’s judgment comes against America for aiding Israel with military and political power, when Israel should be trusting God, through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

For the Egyptians will help in vain and to no purpose.” The United States helps Israel in vain and to no purpose. That is easily seen as Israel has been in 19 wars since the year they were recognized as a State in 1948. Click for a list of those wars. And a huge chunk of the territory of Israel is now called the West Bank, as seen on the image at the top of this post.

Therefore I have called her Rahab-Hem-Shebeth.” That means “Rahab Sits Idle” or “Rahab the Do-Nothing.” The Spirit of the Lord, through Isaiah, calls Israel useless and idle as far as being to Him what Rahab was. Who was Rahab? Rahab was a Gentile, prostitute, and a Canaanite, who helped two men of God when they intended to conquer the land of Jericho. Rahab spoke in faith when she said, “I know that the Lord has given you the land…” Joshua 2:9 Rahab left a scarlet cord in her window for the armies of Israel to see. When they saw the scarlet cord, she and all in her house would be saved from the sword of the armies. The scarlet cord represents the blood Christ Jesus shed on the Cross to atone for sin, and whenever God sees that scarlet cord in the window of our heart, we will be saved and given life, eternal life. Israel has failed, is useless, and idle when recognizing that the eternal land of the New Jerusalem belongs to those who have the blood of Jesus Christ visible within the window of the heart. They are of no help in helping others to enter into the eternal promised land by faith in Jesus Christ.

Even though being a Gentile and prostitute, Rahab’s faith made her righteous in the eyes of God, and she is mentioned within the genealogy of Christ Jesus, as quoted, “Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king.” Matthew 1:5-6 Ruth is the great, great grandmother of king David. King David was somebody the Jewish people looked up to as someone very, very important. I believe the Jewish leaders had a hard time coming to grips with the idea that a Gentile prostitute was the only reason that king David existed. They stood in support of stoning prostitutes to death.

Below is an excerpt about Rahab from Joshua 2:1-3, 6, 8-10, 12-13, 17-19

“Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men have come here tonight from the children of Israel to search out the country.” So the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the country.”

(But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.).

Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof and said to the men: “I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”

So the men said to her: “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear, unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home. So it will be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood will be on our head if a hand is laid on him.'”

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
