In this post, Jesus shares how we should pray. Prayers are not in the words we speak but are found in the groanings of our heart where the Spirit makes intercession for us.

  • The question is asked, how should we pray?
  • Prayer is from a heart full of reverence for God.
  • Prayer is from a heart-felt desire for Heaven and earth to be reconciled.
  • Prayer is from a heart yearning for the Bread of Life.
  • Prayer is from the heart’s desire for reconciled relationships.
  • Prayer is from a heart seeking deliverance from evil.
  • Prayer is to acknowledge the eternal kingdom, power, and glory of God.

The question is asked, how should we pray? “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1

There is a big difference in praying the way the leaders in the churches do and how John and Jesus pray. Part of teaching us how to pray is to be sincere and personal with God in the name of Jesus. In fact, we really don’t know how to pray so intercession is made for us, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26

Public prayers are not what God is looking for, “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.” Matthew 6:5-7 Prayers are not in the words we openly speak but are found in the groanings of our heart where the Spirit makes intercession for us.

Prayer is from a heart full of reverence for God.
“So He said to them, “When you pray, say: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.” Luke 11:2a.

A prayer must be within our heart and soul of Holiness to the Lord God. “…you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God; Romans 8:15-16 God the Father is Holy and Him only are we to serve, “Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You will worship the Lord your God, and Him only you will serve.’ ” Matthew 4:10

Satan wants to be served as God, but we are not to serve him. Today, Satan has caused the population of the world to serve him through his beast. His beast has power over physiology to give people what to say, do, think, and feel. In that way, the beast sits within the temple of God, the body, as if is God and is the one “…who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4 Click for post on that.

Prayer is from a heart-felt desire for Heaven and earth to be reconciled.
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Luke 11:2b.

A prayer must be within us for the coming of the Kingdom of God. Our Lord Jesus says that the Kingdom of God is within us, which means His Kingdom has come upon this earth. Jesus says, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand…the kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” Matthew 4:17, Luke 17:20-21

The Kingdom of God is within us through the Holy Spirit by our faith in Jesus Christ and He is the guarantee of eternal life in the New Jerusalem, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…” Ephesians 1:13-14

There is no earthly Garden of Eden, no Heaven on Earth, but our Lord Jesus Christ returns as suddenly as what lightning flashes from the east to the west, “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthe w24:27

Prayer is from a heart yearning for the Bread of Life.
“Give us this day our daily bread.” Luke 11:3

A prayer must be within us to desire the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life, the Word made flesh, “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” John 6:35 Our Lord Jesus says this to Satan, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

Today’s culture lives for the physical needs of the body and tosses out the word of God. Humanism is the fig leaf worn by those who serve the beast that gives them what to say, do, think, and feel. Humanism is “...an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems:“

Prayer is from the heart’s desire for reconciled relationships.
“And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Luke 11:4a.

A prayer must be within us for forgiveness from Christ Jesus and towards others. Christ gave His life on the Cross to forgive our trespasses against God. That includes washing away from our heart and soul the root of grudges, bitterness, hatred, and vengeance. “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you… Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ…” Ephesians 4:32, 2 Corinthains 5:20

Prayer is from a heart seeking deliverance from evil.
“And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil.” Luke 4b.

A prayer must always be within us that we are not led into temptation and evil. Our Father in Heaven will never lead us into temptation nor hand deliver us to evil. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to lead us in the paths of righteousness, Who guides us on the narrow and difficult path that leads to eternal life. “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” James 1:13

Satan tempts us through his beast that has power over physiology to enflame feelings and thoughts to tempt us with carnal desires and worldly things…to lead us away from Jesus Christ. The temptations are designed to make us live by the thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors that the beast, the evil one. Satan wants to tempt us away from belief in God, to tempt us to reject Jesus Christ, and to tempt us to oppose the presence of the Holy Spirit. “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12

Prayer is to acknowledge the eternal kingdom, power, and glory of God.
“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13b.

We are to acknowledge that the Kingdom belongs to God and no one else. Those of today’s culture wants to claim all the nations of the world as being theirs. They pride themselves in their unity from city to city around the world and the United Nations even sets themselves up as the savior of humanity and the planet through the “Sustainable Development Goals”. However, the truth is quite different, “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” Revelations 11:15

We are to acknowledge that all power belongs to God our Father through Jesus Christ, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:18 Today’s culture wants to claim that all authority belongs to them, as in their attitude and behavior they boast, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war with him?” They are empowered by the beast with uncanny knowledge, heightened intuition, extraordinary skills and talents, amazing physical abilities, uncanny authority over others etc. However, in God’s power, the power center of the beast is plunged into darkness in the Fifth Plague of Revelations 16:10-11. Global warming is instrumental in causing that to happen and is the Fourth Plague of Revelations 16:8-9.

We are to acknowledge that all glory belongs to God the Father, “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” 1 timothy 1:17 The glory that today’s global culture claims for themselves is of this world, temporary, and fades away, “All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” 1Peetr 1:24-25

Jesus says to pray in this way,

“Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil.”

Luke

“For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
Matthew 6:13b.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11

  1. Wiseheart, these are awful times we are living in today. We just have to have that inner assurance that God does see our suffering and heartache, and Jesus is praying for us. They persecuted Jesus and they will persecute us as well. The very last prayer that Jesus prayed to God on this earth was, “My God my God, why have you forsaken me.” God raised Him from the dead, and one day we will be with Him. That is His promise.
