“Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: “Your birth and your nativity are from the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.” Ezekiel 16:1-3
The origin of the birth of the Israelites is very unflattering and would be considered an abomination to them as the children of God. For that reason, the Lord wanted Ezekiel to humble them a bit by reminding them of their birth and nativity. This history is also the origin of the Israelis within the State of Israel.
The birth and nativity of the Israelites began before they were even known as Israelites. They originated from the land of Canaan, and the Canaanites are the descendants of Noah’s grandson Canaan. Canaan was cursed because of his father’s sin against Noah, Genesis 9:18-27. The father of the Israelites was an Amorite, a descendent of Canaan. The mother of the Israelites was a Hittite, also a descendant from Canaan. “Canaan begot Sidon his firstborn, and Heth; the Jebusite, the Amorite, and the Girgashite; the Hivite,” Genesis 10:15-17.
The background of the Israelites, and current day Israelis, is a dark one and not flattering at all. This was an era before they even heard of the Ten Commandments, and the birth of the Twelve Tribes of Israel was a future event [Moses was from the Tribe of Levi]. In fact, much of the populations of Syria and Palestine descended from Canaan. The connection of the birth and nativity of Israel to the Syrian and Palestinian people might be somewhat humbling to the State of Israel today. The birth of the Israelites is in the context of a pregnancy within a very shady and undesirable social environment.
Our Lord Jesus Christ was called a Nazarene, and often referred to as “Jesus of Nazareth”. When one of His Twelve Apostles first heard that Jesus was from Nazareth, He doubted the character of Jesus, “And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” John 1:46
As Christians, our background is very humbling because we were born in sin. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, which means we have a history before knowing God, a dark era of rejecting Jesus Christ, and living contrary to the Holy Spirit. “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
