Zechariah has just seen the Flying Scroll and the Woman in the Basket, both from chapter 5. Those two visions relate to the judgment of the world according to the Holy Bible and the wickedness rooted around the globe. Now, in this chapter 6, Zechariah has the vision of the Four Chariots.

  • Four Chariots travel down a road between two bronze mountains.
  • Chaos, suffering, impurity, and Christ are in the world when the Four Chariots come.
  • The Four Chariots are four spirits of heaven.
  • The condition of the world during the time of the Four Chariots

Four Chariots comes down a road between two bronze mountains. “Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze.” Zechariah 6:1

In the Bible, the type of metal used describes the value of something. For example, gold is used to symbolize something of high value. Silver is used to describe something of secondary value to gold. Bronze is used to describe something of lesser of value. Iron and clay are even of lesser value than bronze. That is seen in the image within the dream of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2. The two mountains are not a build-up of valuable gold treasure, but a build-up of about the cheapest material there is. The Four Chariots are riding on a road between those two mountains.

The Four Chariots coming from between the two bronze mountains would be like coming from a world which has rejected the gold God offers us through Jesus Christ. It is a world living for the benefits of the flesh through the artificial thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and say as global tribulation brews.

Chaos, suffering, impurity, and Christ are in the world when the Four Chariots come. “With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses—strong steeds. Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” Zechariah 6:2-4

The horses of the Four Chariots coming from between the two bronze mountains represent turmoil and chaos on the earth. Red horses often refer to taking peace from the earth. The black horses are referring to sin. The white horses are referring to Holiness. Dappled horses often refer to spiritual impurity and conflict. There is definitely turmoil on the earth when these horses are unleashed onto to the world. The horses are not bringing a mild tribulation, but a strong tribulation…they are strong steeds.

Zechariah had no idea what the Four Chariots were referring to. It was definitely not something that would happen during his time but is something we see a preview of today. The preview we see of the Four Chariots today will increase into a full blown severe global tribulation in the days to come.

The Four Chariots are four spirits of heaven. “And the angel answered and said to me, “These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.” Zechariah 6:5

The Four Chariots are similar in their action as the angels of the Lord who unleash the Seven Plagues and sound the Seven Trumpets. (Click here for first four trumpets……Click here for trumpet five and six…...Click here for the seventh trumpet).

Since the Four Chariots are four spirits of heaven, we know they are coming as the judgment of God against the world. It is a lawless world which denies the existence of God, has discarded the need for the remission of sin through Jesus Christ, and are hostile to the presence of the Holy Spirit. It would be a time when the “man of sin” dominates the people in every city around the world.

Today, we are already living under the global government of the beast (the United Nations). Everybody in every city around the world are exposed to the thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and say. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through the masses of the world. By what they say and do they blaspheme God, toss aside Jesus Christ, and ridicule the Holy Spirit. They are being conformed to the global culture of the bonze mountains as they are groomed to the mark of the beast. Chaos, suffering, spiritual impurity and wickedness are left in their wake.

The condition of the world during the time of the Four Chariots. “The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them,” Zechariah 6:6a. The chariot with the white horses is the Spirit of Holiness going after the black horses of sin. We know that because rest is given to the Spirit of God in the north country, “And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, “See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country.” Zechariah 6:8

“…and the dappled are going toward the south country.” Zechariah 6:6b. The chariot with the dappled horses represents spiritual corruption and conflict between people. The chariot with the red horses is also on the earth and taking peace away in every city around the world. The chaos in the world is severe because the horses are described as being strong.

 “Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, “Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth.” So they walked to and fro throughout the earth.” Zechariah 6:7

During the time of the severe global tribulation, all the chariots will be going around into every city around the world. Chaos, suffering, and spiritual wickedness will be strong under the global government of the beast (United Nations). At the same time, the faithful few followers of Jesus Christ will be strong in their walk of Holiness to keep sin in remission. With the followers of Christ being in the north country, and the chaos being in the south and all around the globe, that reveals being set apart from the world. As Christians, we remain set apart from the broad way which leads to destruction and stay on the narrow way leading to eternal life.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.
(Church song)

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1
