“But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham My friend.” Isaiah 41:8
Before the coming of our Lord Jesus, during the Old Testament, the Israelites were considered to be the chosen servants of the Lord. They were the descendants of Abraham as all twelve tribes of Israel were the descendants of Abraham. Before Abraham, there were no Israelites! Abraham and Sarah had a son named Isaac, and Isaac had a son named Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons, and from those twelve sons were born the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacab’s name was changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel;” Genesis 32:28 Thus, came the name of, the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
Since the coming of Christ Jesus, everyone who lives for Him are considered to be the servants of the Lord, His chosen ones and the descendants of Abraham.
In the previous post on Isaiah 41:1-7, a description is given on how the government of the beast, and its global culture is raised up. In the verses of this post, the Spirit of the Lord says, “But you”, meaning that we whose faith is in Jesus Christ are not part of them.
How are we a servant to God? By humbling ourselves and placing our lives into service for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as Jesus says, “For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.” Luke 22:27 “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.” Matthew 18:4-5
How are we chosen? We are chosen at the Cross of Jesus Christ where atonement of sin is made, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10
How are we the descendants of Abraham, His friend? Through Jesus Christ, “…and if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29
We have to realize that there are no blessings mentioned for the Jewish people in the New Testament. They refuse to accept Jesus as the Christ and Son of God. “See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you will see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’” Matthew 23:38-39 “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,” Romans 3:23-24 As followers of Jesus Christ, we are the Israel of God, “For they are not all Israel who are of Israel…that is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed…and if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Romans 9:6, 8, Galatians 3:29
As followers of Christ Jesus, we are His servant, Jacob, as quoted, “This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.” Psalms 24:6
Our Lord Jesus speaks these words to the Jewish people, “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.” Matthew 21:43 We who live for God, through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, are the nation bearing the fruits of the Kingdom of God.
“You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, and said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away:” Isaiah 41:9
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are not just from the Jewish culture, not just from Isarel, but the Lord has drawn us to Him from the ends of the earth. We are many different languages, many different countries, and many different colors, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-28
The Lord says this to we who serve Him by belief in Christ Jesus, “You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away:” Our Lord Jesus has cast away the Jewish people, because of their unbelief, who were known as the “sons of the kingdom”, as quoted, “And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew 8:11-12 “You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith.” Romans 11:19-20
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10
Christ Jesus sends us the Comforter and Helper, the Holy Spirit. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:15-18
“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” John 17:15-19
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
