Amy Acton Incident at Canfield Fair

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton was targeted in an armed attack during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair in Mahoning County, near Youngstown, on September 6, 2026. According to her campaign, an armed man lunged toward Acton while she was speaking at the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent. The suspect knocked volunteers to the ground and was discovered to be carrying weapons. Multiple people were injured in the incident, but Acton herself was not hurt.

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.” Romans 13:1-7

Today, we are living in a world that rejects belief in God and the goodness of the Holy Spirit, who is given through Jesus Christ. Even so, we do all we can to live peaceably with those in authority, as mentioned in the verses directly above. As it is written in Psalms 44:22, and quoted in Romans 8:36, “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” R0mans 8:36-39
