“In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear by the Lord of hosts; one will be called the City of Destruction.” Isaiah 19:18

Canaan was the earthly promised land, which Joshua led the Israelites into as quoted, “After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying, “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.” Joshua 1:1-2 Canaan also symbolizes the eternal promised land, which every follower of Jesus Christ cross overs into when we are resurrected from the grave.

We are marching on to Canaan,
And Jehovah is our Guide;
We are marching thro’ the desert,
He is ever at our side.
In the darkness, or the danger,
We can never go astray,
With Jehovah for our Leader
And our Guide upon the way.
[We are Marching to Canaan]

Moses led

In that day, “five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan“. Canaan was the promised land and the language of Canaan was Hebrew, the language of the Israelites. That is prophetically speaking of all people being one in Jesus Christ, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:26-29 That unity is also the promise we have been given to inherit the land of the eternal New Jerusalem, and the Holy Spirit in us today is the guarantee of our inheritance in the New Jerusalem, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…” Ephesians 1:13-14

“In that day” refers to the Day of the Lord, as described in Zachariah 14, and the return of of our Lord Jesus Christ when the Seventh Trumpet blows, as described in Revelations 11:15-19. The “land of Egypt” refers to the global culture of the beast. The “five cities” in “Egypt” refer to the remnant who comes to God through Jesus Christ through the time of global lawlessness. “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13 They are those who swear allegiance to live in the presence of the Holy Spirit and not welcoming to the beast that gives what to speak, do, think, and feel. The “City of Destruction” is the global “city” that continues to reject God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, and includes the global government of the beast and its global culture. Their destruction comes in the Day of the Lord, at the return of the Christ, whose name is Jesus.

Some say that the “City of Destruction” was referring to the Egyptian city called On, relating to the “City of the Sun”, which was blasphemously called, the “City of Righteousness”. That is prophetically fitting for the global government of the beast since they are plagued with global warming which is instrumental in bringing the destruction of this present world system. Global warming is the Fourth Plague of Revelations 16:8-9. The global culture also lives within a self-righteousness and portrays an image of Godliness that denies God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, “…having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” 2 Timothy 3:5

On the map below, the red line encircles the land of Canaan during the time of Joshua. The blackline, near the red line, is the boundary of Canaan. During the time of Isaiah, Canaan had become a territory filled with city-states.

“In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them.” Isaiah 19:19-20

Among other unGodly things, Egypt was also known as being a source of bondage and oppression to the people of God. “Egypt” represents bondage to sin and death, but the Christ, Jesus, came to forgive our sin and to give us life in the Spirit and give sus eternal life in the New Jerusalem. The Lord has set up in this world of “Egypt” an altar, and that altar is the Cross where Jesus gave His life as the Lamb of God to atone for our sin. After three days in the grave, God resurrected Jesus Christ to live eternally with Him. From the altar of our soul, we come to Jesus at the Cross, where He forgives our sin, and we devote our life to God through the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus. We live in the newness of the Spirit and are given eternal life through the resurrected Christ. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24

The “pillar” represents something significant to symbolize something very important. A “border” is a boundary that is crossed or not crossed. The “pillar” is the Cross of Jesus Christ and the “border” is a place within our soul. Will we open the border of our heart to let God come into our life through Jesus Christ? On the Cross, Jesus removed the curtain so that we can see our way to cross into the presence of God, “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…” Matthew 27:50-51

The Cross, where Jesus gave His life to atone for sin, is a sign of the covenant of God in this sin-plagued world, and this is the covenant, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

The Lord sent us a Savior, the Mighty One, and He brings Salvation to whoever believes in Him, Jewish or non-Jewish. “As He says also in Hosea: ‘I will call them My people, who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.  And it will come to pass in the place where it was said to them, you are not My people,’ there they will be called sons of the living God.” Romans 9:25-26

“Then the Lord will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the Lord and perform it. And the Lord will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal it; they will return to the Lord, and He will be entreated by them and heal them.” Isaiah 19:21-22

Today, the Lord is known throughout this sin-plagued world, on all seven continents, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We who were once living in bondage to this world, under servitude to “Egypt”, and as a friend to the world, have come to know the Lord through Jesus Christ. The sacrifices and offerings that we give is to take up our cross to follow Jesus, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:24 The vow we make to the Lord is simply this, to confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and to believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead, “...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

The Lord promises to strike “Egypt”, which is to strike the global government of the beast and its global culture…the appearance of global warming is proof of that, Global warming is the Fourth Plague of Revelations 16:8-9. Also, during the time that the global culture is being struck, some will come to experience their bondage to sin and death being struck, by coming to God through Jesus Christ. They are the remnant who live for God, through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18 We are healed through Jesus Christ, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

The Lord pays attention to the repentance of a sinner, He will be entreated by them and heal them, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we will be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” Romans 5:8-11

“In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of hosts will bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.” Isaiah 19:23-25

Egypt and Assyria were vehement military enemies, and their borders were strictly closed to one another. Through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, there are no borders, no military, no violence, and each freely enters into the presence of another, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:27-28 The purity and wholeness of that day will be experienced in the eternal New Jerusalem.

For Egypt to serve Assyria represents humility in our relationship with one another in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Within the humbleness of our soul is where the Lord Jesus sits, and comes victoriously to us, like when He chose to ride on the colt of a donkey, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zachariah 9:9 That prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 21:1-11

We have to remember that we who live for Jesus Christ are the new Israel who will be living in the eternal New Jerusalem. There are no blessings mentioned in the New Testament for the Jewish people, unless they acknowledge Jesus as the Christ. “For they are not all Israel who are of Israel…That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed…And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Romans 9:6,8, Galatians 3:29 “Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria” refers to all religious, territorial, and military boundaries being removed through Jesus Christ.

When the Spirit of the Lord says, Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.” we know that refers to born-again believers, whatever race, nationality, religion, etc. we belonged to before coming to God through Jesus Christ. We are all one through Jesus, in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ are His people, we are all His creation in need of Him, and we belong to God as His inheritance.

“Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” Revelations 22:14 The gates of the city have the names of the Twelve Tribes of Israel written on them [Revelations 21:12-13]. As followers of Jesus Christ we will be entering the eternal New Jerusalem through one of those gates, as members of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Entering into those gates is made possible by living for God through Jesus Christ in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Moses led the Israelites to the promised land of Canaan, but that is where Moses died, and Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:11
