David puts to death one claiming to participate in Saul’s and Jonathan’s death: Jesus Christ condemns those gloating about and claiming a role in the death of Israel and Christianity

2 Samuel 1:1-16

As followers of Jesus Christ, we must never be part of condemning Israel in a way that puts a nail into the coffin. However, we do declare Israel’s need to come to God through Jesus Christ, that is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. However, God is bringing judgment against Israel through the global government of the beast. In that light, it is easy to see that those who are the enemy of Israel are the same enemies of God. As the Holy Spirit says, “For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:8

The enemies of Israel, who are the enemies of God, are those living by the thing which forms what they think, feel, do and say. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through them and by what they say and do they blaspheme God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. They detest the State of Israel because she is a banner symbolizing the Living God in this world. The enemies of Israel are those who are conformed to the global culture of the beast as they are groomed to the mark of the beast.

The verses in this post describes a man boasting about his part in killing Saul and Jonathan. When David heard the man’s boasting, the man was sentenced to death. It is true that Saul was spiritually wicked in his disobedience to God, like Israel which is disobedient to God by rejecting Jesus Christ. Jonathan loved David and today represents Christians who love Jesus Christ. However, Israel is a wayward child to God, and the last thing He wants to hear is that a child of His is being mistreated, which is equally true of Christianity. God prefers to deal with Israel Himself, and they will be resurrected to the judgment of condemnation like everyone who rejects the Lord Jesus. Unless they are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, their eternal destiny is in hell.

The period of this chapter is the final judgment after the coming of the Lord Jesus. Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag,” 2 Samuel 1:1

The verse above is setting the timeframe of the 2 Samuel 1. It was after the death of Saul and after David took vengeance on those who plundered his village and carried the families of his people into captivity. The death of Saul symbolizes the time in this world when the State of Israel is dead. They have been killed by the global government of the beast, referring to the masses around the world, the United Nations, and the countries of the Middle East. David’s slaughter of the Amalekites represents when Jesus Christ returns to take vengeance against all those who come against His family. That is written about in 1 Samuel 30:1-2 (David returns to Ziklag) and 1 Samuel 31 (Saul’s death).

Those coming against Israel and Christianity nowadays are those living by the thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and say. It allows the image of the beast to live and speak through people, and by what they say and do it’s obvious they detest the existence of the State of Israel. They are the masses of people in every city around the world and they are conformed to their place within the global culture of the beast. They are conformed to their mark in life as they are groomed to the mark of the beast. They will be resurrected to their day of judgment and condemnation.

We can say that 2 Samuel 1 refers to the judgment of condemnation coming against those of the second resurrection. If a person’s name is not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, there will be condemnation. The first resurrection (Revelation 20:4-6) brings all those who died living for Jesus Christ to be with Him, who are not raised to condemnation. (Click here for a post on all of that). The verses below refer to the second resurrection bringing people to their judgment, “…they were judged, each one according to his works.”

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.

And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.

The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:11-15

Those of this world are brought to the final judgment before the Lord Jesus Christ. “…on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.” 2 Samuel 1:2

Clothes torn and dust on the head represents anguish, grief, shame, and mourning. Prostrating at the feet of someone represents submission. Those who are raised from the dead to the judgment of their condemnation will be feeling exactly that way when they come face-to-face with Jesus Christ. They will bow before Him.

On the third day, God raised Jesus Christ from the dead as a declaration of His victory over sin and death. That literally happened, and also represents when Jesus Christ comes back in total victory over this world’s system. That is total victory over Satan, the beast, and the second beast (false prophet). It will be a day of great shame and remorse for all those who rejected the Lord Jesus Christ, which is represented by the man who came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head.

Saul’s camp persecuted David and represents all those who live for the global culture of the beast against God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Like the man who fell prostate at David’s feet, the day is coming when, “As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” Romans 14:11 That is not recognition of God as Lord and Savior but is a recognition of God’s victory over them through Jesus Christ.

Saul’s camp also represents those who welcome the thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and speak. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through them and by what they say and do, it is obvious they detest God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. They despise the State of Israel and Christianity. They are conformed to their place within the camp of the global culture as they are groomed to the mark of the beast.

Sitting in the defendant’s seat in the courtroom on judgment day.
Sitting on the defendant’s seat is figurative because either your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, or it is not. There will not be a court hearing to determine innocence or guilt, Jesus Christ already knows the ones who has His blood applied to their heart. They have already been pronounced innocent. At the same time, those who are having their sentence pronounced on them are judged according to what they have done on this earth. The defendant in the verses of this post reveals to us some bad earthly behavior which leads to the sentence of eternal death in hell

Questioning of the defendant in the courtroom of the Lord Jesus. “And David said to him, “Where have you come from?” So he said to him, “I have escaped from the camp of Israel.” Then David said to him, “How did the matter go? Please tell me.” And he answered, “The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.” 2 Samuel 1:3-4

The defendant in the verses of this post reveals to us some bad earthly behavior which leads to the sentence of eternal death in hell.

When the judgment of God comes to those of this world, we can imagine a couple questions which Jesus Christ might ask, “Where are you from?” and “How did the matter go?” Those sitting in the defendant’s seat would try to answer in a way which would put their location in a place apart from spiritual wickedness and to portray themselves as a victim. The intent is to be put in a favorable position with Jesus Christ. They would have to come up with some creative stories, plainly said, they would have to lie. Either way, the truth or the lie of those living against God would not set well with the Lord Jesus.

On the day of their judgment, those of this world would not want to say that they are from the camp of the global culture of the beast nor that they fled the battle against spiritual wickedness. However, they might think that it would be pleasing to Jesus Christ that they might have had something to do with being God’s instrument of bringing judgment and death to Israel. That was the web of lies told by the lying defendant whom David questioned. With every lie and half-truth, he was one step closer to the grave.

The spiritually wicked of this world comes against Israel, and they are the enemy of God. Because of the spiritual wickedness of the masses around the world, and Israel’s rejection of Jesus Christ, God uses the masses of the global government of the beast to bring judgment to Israel on this earth. Jesus says this to us, “Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!” Matthew 18:7

The defendant who David questioned is exposed as a liar in verse 10. He is lying to separate himself from being part of the spiritual wickedness in Saul’s camp and to portray himself falsely in a favorable light in the eyes of David. The defendant lied when he said he was escaping the spiritual wickedness within Saul’s camp; he was running from the Philistines to save his own life. That was strike one for the lying defendant. Jesus Christ expects us to hold to His testimony in very difficult times. As the Lord Jesus says, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 16:25 Running from the spiritual battle leads to eternal death in hell, but remaining faithful to the Gospel of Christ leads to eternal life.

The defendant David questioned said that he and the people fled from the battle, and that many were dead. That was strike two for the defendant. David respects valiant soldiers who would have stood with Saul and Jonathan to the very end but would not respect those fleeing the battle. The last thing Jesus Christ wants to hear on the day of judgment is that the battle against spiritual wickedness was abandoned and that many people are dead to God as a result. We must never abandon Israel nor Jesus Christ.

The questioned defendant thought it would be pleasing to David to hear that David’s enemy Saul was dead. That was strike three, and he was out, as we see in the next verses. On the day of judgment, Jesus Christ doesn’t want to hear people rejoice and gloat over the death of Israel. The spiritually wicked enemies of Israel are the same enemies of God.

How can those of this world know that Israel and Christianity are dead? “So David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?” 2 Samuel 1:5

The spiritually wicked Saul is symbolic of Israel who has disobeyed God by rejecting and killing Jesus Christ. Even then, Israel is like a wayward and unruly child to God who is still loved, like the love of a parent towards an unmanageable child. Jonathan loved David and is symbolic of Christianity who loves Jesus with heart and soul. When David asked the young defendant how he knew Jonathan and David were dead, it was a question that rested on a very personal nerve. It would be the most important question the young defendant had ever faced in the entirety of his young life. On the day of judgment, Jesus Christ will want an answer to that question, “How do you know Israel and Christianity are dead?”

In the previous verse, the young defendant said that he was running to escape from the spiritually wicked camp of Saul. However, he was running from the battle against the Philistines to save his own life. As followers of Jesus Christ, we don’t want to find ourselves sitting on the defendant’s seat after running from the spiritual battle. We would have to explain why we turned from God, why we ran from the Gospel of Christ, and why we shut out the Holy Spirit. It would mean we have run from Christianity and ran from our support of Israel. In essence, running from the spiritual battle would make it very difficult to answer the question from Jesus Christ, “How do you know Christianity and Israel are dead? ” How could anyone respond with an answer from the defendant’s seat that Christianity and Israel are dead to us within our soul?

On the day of judgment, the heart of the matter is about the death of Jesus Christ, the death of Israel, and the death of Christianity. It’s important that we keep our soul alive to Jesus Christ and to treat Israel and Christianity honorably. To put that from another perspective, those who live for the thing forming their thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors are dead within their soul to Jesus Christ, Israel and Christianity. They know without a doubt that Christianity and Israel are dead, and that does not make a good defense on the day of judgment. They allow the image of the beast to live and speak through them by the thing forming their thoughts and feelings. Jesus Christ will know that they come from the camp of the anti-Christian world who are groomed to the mark of the beast.

The judgment against the State of Israel comes through the hands of those living for the global government of the beast, so the enemies of Israel are the same enemies of God. In the next verses, the answer of the lying defendant was not flattering at all to David but was an errant confession of wickedness.

The lies of the defendant are mixed with truth to create a righteous image and deflect guilt. “Then the young man who told him said, “As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.” 2 Samuel 1:6

Liars spin a whole lot of truth into their account of a situation, but only to turn the whole story around to make them look free of guilt and righteous in the eyes of those they are speaking to. The defendant who David was questioning was not on Mt. Gilboa by chance, he was one of Saul’s spiritually wicked men conspiring to kill David. It was true that Saul was leaning on his spear and that the Philistines were coming to put a finish to Saul’s life. However, the lying defendant was there purposely with Saul, not by chance, and when he saw the Philistines coming, he ran.

“Now when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, ‘Here I am.’ And he said to me, ‘Who are you?’ So I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’” 2 Samuel 1:7-8

The lying defendant “hopped out of the frying pan into the fire” with the lie he gave in the verse above. He was trying to hop out of the “frying pan” by saying he had no connection with the spiritual wickedness of Saul, but “hopped into the fire” by lying and saying he was an Amalekite. The Amalekites plundered David’s village when David was gone and took all of David’s family and the families of his men captive (1 Samuel 30:1). David retaliated against the Amalekites, recovered all that was taken, and left none of the Amalekites alive, except for a few who had escaped (1 Samuel 30:17)This is like those of this world telling Jesus Christ they had nothing to do with Israel but were among those who plundered and took captive those faithful to Jesus Christ.

“He said to me again, ‘Please stand over me and kill me, for anguish has come upon me, but my life still remains in me.’ So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.” 2 Samuel 1:9-10

The lying defendant thought that he would be something of a hero by telling David he put Saul out of his misery after being severely wounded. That’s like those of this world boasting about playing a role in the death of Israel. The verses below expose the lie of the defendant and describe how Saul and his sons really died,

The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.

Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.”

But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it. And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him. So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.

1 Samuel 31:3-6

On top of taking credit for the death of Saul, the lying defendant truthfully said that he took Saul’s crown and bracelet. The crown would be like the status of Israel being declared a nation in 1948 by the hand of God according to Bible prophecy. For the crown to be stolen by those of the global government of the beast is for the State of Israel to lose their place as a nation within the world. Today, the United Nations have already labeled them an international outlaw due to the government of Israel violating their rules of global peace and security. The bracelet relates to something the warriors wore in battle to make an intimidating noise during their march. Nowadays, the noise of the march of the State of Israel’s police and military actions are being outlawed and taken from them.

The lie of the defendant is like telling a father of a wayward child that the death of the child, while lost in the world, was at your hand. Not only telling them you were responsible for the child’s death, but you had personal possessions of the child to prove it. It would infuriate the father to a boiling rage, even if it was a lie. Likewise, God does not want to hear anyone gloating about having a part in Israel’s death. Israel is the wayward child of God, and He will handle the judgment of Israel Himself. God’s judgment comes against Israel by the hands of the global government of the beast. If Israel refuses to reconcile to God through Jesus Christ, then they will be condemned to eternal hell like everyone else who rejects His Son. Even so, the full fury of God’s wrath comes against those of this world who despise and maliciously speak against Israel. The deeds of those in this world will be judged.

Lies mixed with truth is what this anti-Christian world is built on. Those who live and govern by the thing giving them what to say, think, do, and feel have only one intention, to be on top. The thing forming their thoughts and feelings enables the image of the beast to live and speak through them to make sure lies and truth are well placed to put down any opposition or threat to them. Those living for the “democratic” global culture are conformed to their place in society, not by truth and righteousness, but by being groomed to the mark of the beast. They are hostile and belittling as they scoff at and ridicule the reality of the existence of God, the Truth of the Gospel of Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ mourns the death of Israel and Christianity. “Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.” 2 Samuel 1:11-12

David and his people were in deep anguish and mourning for the death of Saul and Jonathan. That is the same mourning the Lord Jesus feels for the affliction and persecution of Israel and Christianity.

All through the Bible, the prophecy is that Israel and Christianity will suffer to the point of deeply distressing the Lord Jesus Christ. But He promises that He sees every sparrow that falls, and we are of more value,

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:28-31

The Holy Spirit prepares us for the day when Israel and Christianity are overcome. The “him” in the verse below is the beast which is behind the thing which forms what people think, feel, do, and speak to enable the image of the beast to live and speak through them. They dominate every city around the world and by what they say and do, they are conformed to the anti-Christian society as they are groomed to the mark of the beast.

It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 13:7-8

The shortest verse in the Bible is “Jesus wept” John 11:35. In response to His compassion for the suffering of His people, He is going to raise us from the dead into eternal life, just like He did with Lazarus when he said, “Lazarus, come forth!” John 11:43.

How can those of this world not fear to bring harm to Israel and Christianity? “Then David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” And he answered, “I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite.” So David said to him, “How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?” 2 Samuel 1:13-14

The lying defendant declared that he was an alien and a son of an Amalekite. He has already lied and errantly confessed to putting an end to Saul’s life. That is why David asked him how he could not be afraid to have a hand in destroying the Lord’s anointed. Although Saul was spiritually wicked, he was a king over the Israelites and David expected loyalty to Saul in that respect. Likewise, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are expected never to have a role in coming against Israel, and those same expectations are for everyone else as well.

The defendant also made a huge mistake by lying and saying he was an Amalekite. He apparently had no idea that the Amalekites were plundering and burning David’s camp while he was running from support of Israel during the battle against the Philistines. The Amalekites took David’s family and all of his men’s families captive. The lie of the defendant would be like those of today telling Jesus Christ they had a role in coming against Him and prohibiting His Gospel from spreading freely through society.

Why was the defendant lying so much? Because he was trying to avoid the wrath and judgment of David. Saul was an enemy of David who wanted David dead, so the lying defendant thought he would be a hero by saying he killed Saul. The lying defendant was also trying to portray himself as a person totally alien to the camp of Saul by saying he was an Amalekite. Lying to the Holy Spirit is the wrong path to take because it gets us out of the frying pan and into the fire. The only way for God to see us in a favorable light is through His Son Jesus Christ, to stand in support of Israel and to contribute to the life of His testimony.

If we were to be questioned by Jesus Christ, the last thing He wants to hear is that we ran from supporting Israel during the spiritual battle in this world. Although we do not support Israel’s spiritual wickedness and rejection of Jesus Christ, we support them as a person would support and try to help a runaway child in this world. Israel is a rebellious and wayward child of God who needs to return home to Him through Jesus Christ. As followers of Jesus, we stand with Israel and are never to lift up a hand or voice against them. God will bring judgment to Israel by his own hand through the spiritual wickedness of the global government of the beast.

We see the world coming against Israel today. The United Nations (Global government of the beast) has made the State of Israel an international outlaw for their use of police and military force. The masses in cities around the world protest against the government of Israel for not conforming to the global goals of the United Nations. The Israeli citizens protest against their own government demanding their “democratic” rights as defined by the United Nations (including the right to kill the unborn and to promote the LGBQT+ lifestyles, etc.). The United States have run from their support of Israel by refusing to stand with Israel against the “democratic” goals of the global government of the beast. How can they not be afraid to lift their hand against the Lord’s anointed?

If we were to be questioned by Jesus Christ, He does not want to hear that we are alien to Him and had a hand in plundering Christianity and preventing His Gospel from freely being spread. If we were to implicate ourselves and say we came against the Lord Jesus and also ran from our support of Israel, Jesus would respond with this question, “How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?” There is going to be severe judgment for those who have no fear of God, reject His son Jesus Christ, and who blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Those of this world are under a strong delusion which totally removes the Holy Spirit from their conscience. They have no thoughts coming to them from the marriage of the human spirit to Jesus Christ. They are totally depraved of any thought of the Living God. They are given what to think, they are given what to feel, they are given what to do, and they are given what to speak. They have allowed the image of the beast to live and speak through them and by what they do and say they afflict Israel and Christianity. They are from the global “democratic” culture of the beast and are groomed to the mark of the beast. Their ritual is to bring death to Israel and the testimony of Jesus.

The judgment of Jesus Christ is eternal death in hell for those living for this world. “Then David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and execute him!” And he struck him so that he died. So David said to him, “Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have killed the Lord’s anointed.’ ” 2 Samuel 1:15-16

Those who live for the global government of the beast has death coming to them when they are resurrected to their day in court, the courtroom of Jesus Christ. It is the second death, which is eternal torment in hell.

“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.

He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Revelation 14:9-11

After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.” Again they said, “Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!” “And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” Revelation 19:1-3, 6

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
