Fellowship in the rest and Light of Jesus Christ.
Paul left from Philippi and was brought to Troas, where he stayed for seven days [Acts 20:4-6]. Philippi is circled in yellow towards the top of the map and to the west. Troas is circled in yellow and is southeast of Philippi.

“Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where they were gathered together.” Acts 20:7-8

This was Paul’s seventh day in Troas as he planned to leave first thing in the morning. This was also the first day of the week, which would have been the Sabbath, known as the Lord’s Day of rest, or our Sundays. This was a day to memorialize the day of rest when God finished His creation, “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done,” Genesis 2:1-2

The Holy Spirit, through Paul, says that the day of rest is when we come to live for God through Jesus Christ. In His rest, there is no day any more special than any other day because we live every day in the presence of God through the Holy Spirit. “For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:10-11 Click for the full text from Hebrews 4:1-11One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.” Romans 14:5

There were many lamps in the upper room where the followers of Jesus Christ met. By this, we know it was dark, and also that Paul spoke until midnight. The many lamps represent the many followers of Jesus Christ who were in the room. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are the lamp shining with the Holy Spirit and eager and receptive to hear the Good News of Jesus. In Jesus, we are the light shining in this dark world.

In the days of the Apostles, and influencers of the way of Jesus Christ, the only way to receive the word of Jesus was by hearing. Faith came by hearing. The New Testament scriptures weren’t a book until about a couple hundred years after 70AD. Jesus was crucified on the Cross to atone for sin and resurrected in 33AD. The Apostles, and the disciples of Jesus with them, were important in spreading the testimony of Jesus. That’s because these people were always among those whom Jesus walked among, from the baptism of John to the day Jesus was crucified, and they were a witness to His resurrection [Acts 1:21-22]. People were eager to hear all they could from Paul, even staying up long hours to hear him speak of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After all, Paul had a born-again experience, and walked among the Apostles at Jerusalem, and said this, “For I consider that I am not at all inferior to the most eminent apostles.” 2 Corinthians 11:5

As followers of Jesus Christ, we have entered into His rest by living in the Spirit and not by the written laws of religious doctrines, nor by being a member of a religious organization, nor a specific church, nor by observing specific “Holy Days”, etc. Our fellowship is among Believers who desire to share the testimony of Jesus Christ, which is His Gospel written on our heart. We are the lamps that burn with the oil of the Holy Spirit, a light shining in a dark and perilous world. When our Lord Jesus returns, He is looking for those whose lamps are shining, and these He brings home with Him to the eternal New Jerusalem. Click here for the parable on keeping oil in our lamp [Matthew 25:1-13].

Growing weary in the word of God.
“And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.” Acts 20:9

A window is a place where everyone can see what is going on. Eutychus was sitting in a window while Paul was speaking about Jesus Christ. The young man became very tired, fell asleep, and fell out the window. In those days, hearing about Jesus came through those who had a personal experience with Him and was able to share the Good News through their own born-again experience. Faith truly came by hearing. There wasn’t a New Testament to pick up and read, which explains why so many gathered to listen to Paul speak about Jesus all through night. While Eutychus fell asleep in the window, Paul continued to speak about the message of the Cross. The young man fell three stories to the ground and was determined to be dead.

Today, there are followers of Jesus Christ who have been listening to sermons in the manmade churches, on television, through some type of social media or internet, or reading the Bible for themselves. For them, they become weary and tired of hearing and reading the scriptures while waiting for the return of Jesus Christ. These are the Christians that today’s culture want to spotlight, people they want to sit in the window for everyone to see. They want all the community to believe it is futile to serve Jesus Christ as they see a Chrisitan falling asleep in their wait for the return of Jesus Christ. Falling asleep to their faith. They want everyone to see how Christians are falling dead in their weariness in hearing the word of God.

The Lord let Habakkuk know that the vision given to him was for a future time, and it would be necessary to wait and have patience for the time to come. “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3 We are living in those appointed times, and prophecies are being fulfilled in front of our eyes. A list of a few prophecies fulfilled since 1945 is seen in the post on Habakkuk 2:1-4. Click here for the table of contents for Habakkuk.

Global warming is in the world, and this is definitely a sign that God is still working in this atheistic world. Global warming is the Fourth Plague of Revelations 16:8-9. The more powerful the United Nations become as the one world government the hotter and more intense the effect of global warming becomes.

“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.” James 5:7 “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalms 27:14

“Then [Jesus] came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.” Matthew 26:40-45

The purpose of today’s culture, which is global, is to put Christianity to sleep, to cause the death of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As the Holy Spirit says to us, “…knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation…But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” 2 Peter 3:3-4, 7

Resurrected and brought home alive at daybreak.
“But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.” Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed. And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted.” Acts 20:10-12

Eutychus fell from the third story window and was dead, as described in the previous section of Acts 20:9. Then, Paul went down to him and covered the young man with his own body and the life of Eutychus returned. Eutychus was resurrected from the dead around midnight, and after that everyone returned upstairs and continued breaking bread and talking about Jesus Christ. This continued on until the break of day, then Paul departed [and was brought to Miletus]. The young man was returned to the fellowship alive, which was more than a little comforting.

Today, everybody globally is exposed to the power that the entity has over physiology to give us what to feel, how to behave, what to think, and what to speak. Christians are exposed to these Satanic attacks as well. The Satanic goal is to give life to the image of the beast to speak and live through everyone. The expectation is for people to be groomed to the mark of the beast by what they are given to say and do. This means to deny God as the Divine Creator, to reject the need for Jesus Christ, and to fight against the presence of the Holy Spirit. As follower of Jesus Christ, we are not willing to blaspheme our Lord and Savior.

Some Christians will fall from living for Jesus Christ, like Eutychus who fell dead from three stories up, “And some of them of understanding will fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.” Daniel 11:35 Click for a post on Daniel 11:31-35. There will be other Christians, like Paul, who revive the faith of fallen comrades, “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3 Click for a post on Daniel 11:40-12:3 On top of spiritual resurrection, our Lord Jesus will raise His faithful from the grave into eternal life, “Every one who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.” Daniel 12:2

Our Lord Jesus is the star of daybreak, the bright and morning Star, “I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” Revelations 22:16 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.” John 14:19

“Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” Luke 24:1-7

From Troas, Pul would be brought through several cities and then have a stay in Miletus.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
