It happens constantly. My Debit Card is the CHIP kind that pushes into the card reader and doesn’t need to be slid through. It happens at Subway when I try to buy a meal, happens at Speedway when I pick up a snack, and I would say it happens just about everywhere. The response from the employees seems to be the same everywhere, with a little alarm and shock in their voice they say, “You must have a CHIP.” Of course! Along with everyone else who uses the card reader to read their CHIP cards. The employees try a couple times to get it to work, they fail, then they call the manager who pushes a button to get it to work. The manager, whoever it is, acts like they just performed a miracle. So, I guess it’s for them to get the CHIP to function and for me to watch what I think and do,
“And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.”
Mark 7:20-22
I think it is obvious to everyone that the thoughts popping into our heads, and the feelings that motivate our behavior are not going to be controlled by a CHIP reader. Who really believes that a plastic card, or a microchip under our skin, or anywhere else, is all of a sudden going to have dominion over the much more complex “computer” that controls our thoughts, behavior, and feelings? If my CHIP doesn’t work, perhaps it’s only because my thoughts and behaviors don’t conform to the present standards of this world. Really, Romans 12:2 makes it clear that as the world progresses with their own thought processes and behavior, the thoughts and behavior of those who follow Jesus will be a lot different; “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
