The Attack on Being Able to See

John 9

“We see!” “I know!” are phrases I hear constantly when I share enlightening information. That’s why I wanted to write this relating to what Jesus said, “As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:4-5 The Light of the World is under attack. Now is the time when the night has come. Jesus had opened the eyes of a blind man, and the haranguing began.

Sight or truth isn’t needed in the society that we live in today. Aggression, hostility, overwhelming numbers, etc. has replaced the need to be informed with truth. People who use protests, violence, overwhelming numbers, verbal aggression, etc. are forcing changes in culture, laws, and constitutions without having discussions about it. In fact, if discussions don’t go their way, then the haranguing begins. Political debates have become everything except a process for opening the eyes of voters to the issues. They are full of malice, beatdowns, and berating to shut down an opponent’s point of view. Just recently, a couple debates came down to a near shoving match between two candidates.

The hostility between “Right Wing,” and “Left Wing,” leaves no room for open discussions that enables enlightenment. Television, radio, social media, etc. are far from presenting news to open eyes to bring awareness of real social issues. Even trying to have an open conversation is impossible. It’s exactly what is said in Daniel 8:12 “Because of rebellion, the Lord’s people and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground.” This is a world dominated by those who live for mark of the beast. It tramples down Jesus Christ, mocks the Holy Spirit, and makes itself God. Night is here. The Light of the World is under attack.

The following is the reactions of the community leaders after Jesus opened the eyes of a blind man. The writing in bold is a summary, which is the only writing that I did, besides the above paragraphs. The scripture following that is a word for word transcript, I did not expound on them at all. It is exactly what is happening today.

Jesus Christ Decided to Open the Eyes of a Man who was Blind from Birth.

“As He went along, He saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

After saying this, He spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” He told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So, the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”
John 9:1-2, 6-7

Neighbors Argue the Truth of Whether it is the Same Man.

“His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked,
“Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?”
Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”
John 9:8-9

They Even Argue about the Truthfulness of the Man Who Received His Sight.

“But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”
“How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.”
John 9:9b-10

They Tried to Track Down Jesus Who is Responsible for Opening the Eyes.

“He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes.
He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”
“Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.”
John 9:11-12

Authorities Investigates Legal Technicalities of Jesus’s Actions.

“They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.
Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath.
Therefore, the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight.
“He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”
John 9:13-15

Internal Conflict Among Authorities Who are Investigating.

“Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for He does not keep the Sabbath.”
But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So, they were divided.”
John 9:16

Further Questioning of the Seeing Man and More Conflict Over His Truthfulness.

“Then they turned again to the blind man,
“What have you to say about Him? It was your eyes he opened.”
The man replied, “He is a prophet.” They still did not believe that he had been blind. ”
John 9:17-18a

Authorities Investigate Family Background of the Man Who Received His Sight.

“They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight
until they sent for the man’s parents. “Is this your son?” they asked.
“Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?”
John 9:18-19

Family Fear the Authorities as they are Interrogated.

“We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind.
But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know.
Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.”
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders,
who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus
was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue.
That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
John 9:20-23

Authorities try to Coerce a False Statement from the Seeing Man.

“A second time they summoned the man who had been blind.
“Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.”
He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know.
One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”
John 9:24-25

Man Who Received His Sight Refuses to Give a False Testimony.

“Then they asked him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”
He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen.
Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”
John 9:26-27

Man is Accused of Conspiring with Jesus Against Authorities.

“Then they hurled insults at him and said,
“You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! We know that God spoke to Moses,
but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.”
The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where He comes from,
yet He opened my eyes.”
John 9:28-30

Man Who Received His Sight Praises Jesus as Being Sent from God.

“We know that God does not listen to sinners.
He listens to the Godly person who does His will.
Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.
If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
John 9:31-33

The Seeing Man is Disowned from Community Network.
In those days, being thrown out from Temple meant a loss of family, employment, and being disowned as a Jew. It’s basically turning someone into a homeless person. Although the man could see, they fixed it that he would never be able to profit from that through worldly resources.

“To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!”
And they threw him out.”
John 9:34

The Seeing Man Believes and Worships Jesus.

“Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “
Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
“Who is He, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in Him.”
Jesus said, “You have now seen Him; in fact, He is the one speaking with you.”
Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped Him.”
John 9:35-38

Jesus Tells Community Authorities that They are Blind.

“Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see
and those who see will become blind.”
Some Pharisees who were with Him heard Him say this and asked,
“What? Are we blind too?”
Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin;
but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”
John 9:39-41
