Jonah runs from the call of God for him to preach against Ninevah.

“Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.” Matthew 12:38-41

Jonah runs from the call of God for him to preach against Ninevah.
“Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.” Jonah 1:1-3

God called Jonah to preach the Gospel of repentance and forgiveness against the wickedness of the people of Nineveh. However, Jonah ran from that calling and bought a ticket on the first ship out of town. Later on, Jonah learned obedience to the will of God and did preach to those of Nineveh.

Our Lord Jesus also had His time of temptation to flee from the will of God for Him to suffer an excruciating death by being crucified on the Cross. Jesus even prayed [with great drops of sweat was pouring down from his face] for God not to allow Him to suffer such a brutal and humiliating death. “Jesus went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:39

Our Lord Jesus became obedient to the will of God, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” Philippians 2:8

Jesus Christ was tempted in every way as every one of us, “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses. Instead, we have one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet he never sinned. So let us keep on coming boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16

Like Jonah, every one of us will find a way out of sharing the Gospel of Christ [which is our born-again experience], and we will run from God. Unlike Jesus Christ, we will sin in our disobedience to God, but by His grace and mercy we can return to the narrow road to keep on coming boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:11
