“And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” Galatians 4:6-7
Paul is explaining to the Galatians why it’s not necessary to live by the laws of Judaism, and why it’s not important to honor certain days, festivals [holidays], etc. of the Jewish culture. They were made right with God by their faith in Jesus Christ, living through the Holy Spirit, and not justified by rules, policies, and rituals of the written law. Their behavior was governed from within their heart and soul, with the Spirit reaching out to God, saying “Abba, Father!” A change of heart is the born-again experience, and being born-again is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which the Galatians had.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:11-13
All of us who are born-again through Jesus Christ have His Gospel written on our heart, and we live by the Spirit always reaching out to God. It’s not necessary to attend manmade churches on Sundays, Easter, Christmas, special evangelical series, Bible School, etc. We live for God from within ourselves by our faith in Jesus Christ who has given us the Holy Spirit to help us through this world. We are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Romans 8:16-17
“…the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
“But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods. But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? ” Galatians 4:8-9
Before the Galatians knew Jesus Christ [which is how we know God], they were living by the standards and values of things that are not gods at all. After they came to God, they felt compelled, by the Jewish leaders, to live by the laws of Judaism and put themselves under the authority of something that was made obsolete through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the word made flesh, He is part of the Trinity along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, so to be in authority to any other is to turn away from the word of God. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14
Paul, by the Holy Spirit, says, “But now you know God, or rather, God knows you.” That’s because God knows us because He knows His Son, and when His Son Jesus Christ is seen in us, then He knows us. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10 We can say we believe in God, but unless He sees His Son in us, then He does not know us, “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Matthew 7:22-23
Living for Jesus Christ isn’t about using soft words, compliments, flatteries, coming across as angelic, nor any other such things. Living for God is about belief and faith in Jesus Christ, allowing His word to live in us, and subduing the wet and soggy mire of human flesh Zachariah 10:5. We do not worship angels, “Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels…” Colossians 2:18 “For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” Romans 16:18 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
“You religiously observe days, months, seasons, and years! I’m afraid for you. Maybe the hard work I spent on you has been wasted.” Galatians 4:10-11
If the Galatians would have observed those days, months, seasons, and years of the Jewish culture, they would have been obligated to follow the teachings of Judaism. That’s because if they were known to be Christian then they would have been thrown out of the fellowship of the “law-abiding” Jewish people. Paul knew that if the Galatians were being embraced by the Jewish people following Judaism, then the Galatians had turned their back on the Gospel of Christ. Paul said, “I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain.”
As born-again followers of Jesus Christ, it is a waste of the Gospel of Christ to believe we need to attend the manmade churches every Sunday, to be available for Summer Bible School, to show up for Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, and any other day deemed important by human beings. From the heart, we honor the birth of Jesus Christ, acknowledge His crucifixion to forgive our sin, rejoice in His resurrection, and everyday honor Him from within our heart.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
