The Apostle Peter quotes Joel 2:28-32 and excludes the Jewish people from that quote.

When the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:17-21, there is a word-for-word quote from this portion of Joel to explain what had happened. There is a direct quote from those verses in Acts at the bottom of this post. There is one very important omission when the Apostle Peter quoted Joel 2:28-32, he left out this entire verse of 32b, “For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.” Joel 32b. The Apostle Peter knew that there was no deliverance of the Jewish people without Jesus Christ and without Jesus the Holy Spirit is not given. The Apostle Peter stops after the verse in Joel 32a. which says, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

Since the Apostle Peter omitted that verse when he quoted Joel 2:28-32, it conforms to how Mount Zion refers to eternal life in Heaven. The interpretation of Mount Zion is no longer exclusive to the Jewish people, and neither is the interpretation of Jerusalem. Specifically, when it refers to Salvation and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Also, the remnant refers to the faithful few who hold to the testimony of Jesus Christ, and the only way a Jewish person would be considered part of the remnant is if they are in the family of Christianity. The Lord calls us to the Cross of Jesus Christ to be reconciled to Him by the remission of sin. Jesus Christ is God’s calling card. The followers of Jesus Christ answer that call.

As we live for Jesus Christ, He will give us the Holy Spirit, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17

The following verse is also words spoken by the Apostle Peter in Acts 4:10-12 which plainly says the Jewish people have no Salvation without Jesus Christ, and subsequently no Holy Spirit, as quoted, “…let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:10-12

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of Salvation, and Salvation only comes through Jesus Christ the giver of the Holy Spirit, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

The following verses are directly from Joel 2:28-32 which includes part b of Joel 32 (In italics). “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.

The following verses are directly from Acts 2:16-21 which quotes Joel 2:28-32 but excludes part b from Joel 2:32.

“But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.

And on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
