“For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.” John 5:16
The verses in this post picks up from where Jesus had just healed a man who had been crippled for thirty-eight years. The crippled man picked up the mat he was lying on and began to walk as Jesus commanded. For that reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus. It’s like people of today being healed in the spirit and beginning to walk in the Spirit of Christ, then we are afflicted for living for the Lord Jesus.
Today, Jesus Christ is being persecuted as His Gospel is eliminated, Christianity is despised, and we who live for Him are ridiculed. That is true because we live for the healing of the spirit and soul while the global culture lives for the non-spiritual thing giving them what to feel, think, say and do. It is a literal battle for the soul as we Christians dedicate our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit and the global culture dedicates their body as the temple of the thing forming their thoughts and feelings. They are allowing the image of the beast to live and speak through them by the thing giving them what to think, feel, do, and say. That is described in the verses quoted below,
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19
(There is one who makes war against the temple of the Holy Spirit), “…who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4 (The “he” in the verse refers to the “man of sin”, the “lawless one”, or the “man of perdition”. Click here for a post on the “man of sin.”
“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God.” 2 Corinthians 6:16
“Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 1 Corinthians 6:16-17
We can assess that Jesus Christ is persecuted in this world today because of the healing He brings in the spirit and soul. The diagnosis is that the global culture opposes the Spirit because the Spirit opposes the non-spiritual thing which gives people what to feel, think, do and say. We plan to live for our Lord Jesus Christ despite the difficulties and hostilities hurled at us, “If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.” 1 Peter 4:14 We implement the plan by believing in God as Creator, acknowledging the need for the remission of sin through Jesus Christ, and welcoming the presence of the Holy Spirit. We know the plan is successful when the testimony of Jesus Christ is more important to us than the words and actions of the anti-Christian culture.
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary. In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
Church Hymn
A wondrous beauty I see,
For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
