It’s more than easy to let my light shine. All I have to do is say “Hi” with human sentiments that are pleasant and sincere. The response I get is less than reciprocal and often I get the response similar to, “where have you been!” What I was expecting is something along the line of a warm “Welcome.” It definitely seems apparent that the Spirit of Christ is not welcomed. And those self-check-out machines in the stores seem to see my light also. The automated response towards those with less than a cordial demeanor seems to get the friendly response, “Thank-you for shopping with us.” The machine I use seems to be using an accusatory voice telling me, “Please scan the item before putting it in the bag.” And it sounds too loud, everyone around hears it. I did scan the item. I bring just a little sunshine and I feel afflicted, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20
I figure that is how dark it is in society. In very dark places, all it takes is a tiny amount of light to become very illuminating in the surroundings. Other times that tiny light isn’t near enough. Like when I turn my living room lights on when it’s daylight and my curtains are open. I need a lot more than a tiny amount of light. In a very dark world, it doesn’t take a lot for the light of Christ’s Spirit to shine. To let my light shine nowadays is just simply to not get caught up into all the negativity around me. Jesus is that light, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:19
