Worldly leaders fight military battles, Jesus Christ is not of this world. “Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse, and who had eight sons. And the man was old, advanced in years, in the days of Saul.” 1 Samuel 17:12 In the days of Saul, the leadership over Israel was not following God, it is towards the last days of the father of David, and David is the youngest of all the sons. This is like today’s world which has leadership that denies God and discards the need for Jesus Christ. We are at the old age of the last of the last days of this world’s system, and Jesus Christ is the only Son of God who brings Salvation.
“The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone to follow Saul to the battle. The names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.” 1 Samuel 17:13 To follow Saul into battle is a worldly fight with military violence. “David was the youngest. And the three oldest followed Saul. But David occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.” 1 Samuel 17:14-15 David set himself apart from Saul to feed his father’s sheep. Jesus Christ set Himself apart from worldly power to feed His Father’s sheep with spiritual might. “Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” John 18:36
God’s people are challenged to fight, and the Bread of Life is sent. “And the Philistine drew near and presented himself forty days, morning and evening.” 1 Samuel 17:16 I think of Jesus being tempted in the desert for forty days and forty nights. Satan wanted to get Christ to deny God and worship him by catering to the human body, tempting God, and being given worldly power. As followers of Jesus Christ, our battle is in spiritual places, not on this earth and we are constantly taunted twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Satan works through the thing that has power to form what we think, feel, and do to cause us to deny God and reject Jesus Christ. Even so, we live by the Holy Bible, never use the physical body to prove the Spirit of God, and we serve only God while rejecting worldly authority.
“Then Jesse said to his son David, “Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dried grain and these ten loaves, and run to your brothers at the camp.” 1 Samuel 17:17 David brought bread to his brothers in the battle, and Jesus Christ gave Himself to us as the Bread of Life and He is the word of God made flesh. We live by His word in the spiritual battle, and we live by the Gospel of Christ and by the Holy Spirit who He gives to us.
“And carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers fare, and bring back news of them.” Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 17:18-19 While Jesus Christ nourishes us with His Spirit for the spiritual battle, this world (including Israel) engage into a physical battle and even military conflict against those who goad them into battle.
Jesus Christ hears His people during the raging global tribulation. “So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle.” 1 Samuel 17:20 David left his sheep in the hands of a keeper. That is symbolic of Jesus Christ who has left His sheep in the hands of the Holy Spirit after He ascended into Heaven. While Jesus Christ is in Heaven, He will come back when this world is raging with tribulation and battle.
“For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army.” 1 Samuel 17:21 The “army against army” is like the Battle of Armageddon which takes place on this earth just before Jesus intervenes by coming back to knock down and kill the global giant. “And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.” 1 Samuel 17:22 During the global tribulation, the followers of Christ are fed from the hand of the Holy Spirit, and Jesus will be coming back for all His family who hold to His testimony.
“Then as he talked with them, there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines; and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them.” 1 Samuel 17:23 Jesus Christ hears the prayers of His people as we talk to Him during turbulent days of affliction. He also hears the blasphemes, threats, and terror spoken against His people by the giant global government of the beast. Our prayers are in Heaven in golden bowls, “Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Revelation 5:8
“And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.” 1 Samuel 17:24 The global “democratic” society of the beast is a terror to the State of Israel as well as to the followers of Jesus Christ. It detests God and despises those who make their body the home of the Holy Spirit. It wants to set in our soul as God by the ability to form thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviors. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through people. Those people are a terror to Christianity because we uphold the teachings of the Bible.
“So the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and it shall be that the man who kills him the king will enrich with great riches, will give him his daughter, and give his father’s house exemption from taxes in Israel.” 1 Samuel 17:25 Jesus Christ is the One who destroys the beast and second beast (false prophet) which brings destruction to this world’s current system. Jesus is the One to receive great riches, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:12
Unbelievers scorn the faith of Jesus Christ. “Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26 The question that David asks is actually an offer to kill the giant Goliath. David’s faith in God was such that no unbeliever stands a chance when goading His people to violence. Jesus Christ came to us with the promise of overcoming this world, “In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b.
Jesus Christ has won the battle against sin and death and in Him we have victory over the world. “And the people answered him in this manner, saying, “So shall it be done for the man who kills him.” 1 Samuel 17:27 This verse refers to the great riches that would be given to the one who defeats the giant (vs.25). Those riches belong to Jesus Christ who defeats the global government of the beast.
“Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” 1 Samuel 17:28 When Jesus Christ walked this earth, His Jewish “brothers” mocked Him, scorned Him, and detested His presence among them. They hated Him for His rude and disrespectful behavior towards their worldly authority, and He would not subject Himself to their corruption. They despised Him for saying He was the Savior of the world.
Today, those who govern and live by the thing which forms what they think, feel, and do make a mockery of Jesus Christ being in Heaven and leaving His sheep on this earth to suffer in the wilderness of global tribulation. They are allowing the image of the beast to speak and live through them. Jesus Christ is coming back, not to watch the battle but to put an end to it.
“And David said, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” 1 Samuel 17:29 Jesus Christ was constantly falsely accused of doing wrong when He was bringing Salvation to the whosoever, “Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” John 10:32 “Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.” 1 Samuel 17:30 David turned to another and spoke about the reward received for killing the giant, and they replied the same as the first group, there would be great riches. Jesus Christ often turned away from the Jewish leaders to speak to the people, and the people gathered around Him by the multitudes signifying the great tribute given to Him. What is the reward given to Jesus Christ for conquering sin and death? We live our life for Him and He sits on the right hand of God in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus Christ came to rescue us from the viciousness of sin and death. “Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him.” 1 Samuel 17:31 When the anointed king David said he would fight the giant, his words reached the ears of king Saul, whom God disapproved. This is like when the words of Jesus Christ reached the ears of the Jewish leaders, whom God disapproved.
Today, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been heard all around the world, and the rulers of the global government of the beast are fully aware. “Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:32 The message Jesus Christ has for all Believers is this, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27b. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
“And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 1 Samuel 17:33 The Jewish people lost faith in Jesus because they were looking for outward signs of a military leader, but all they saw was a humble and gentle person talking about forgiveness of sin and eternal life. Today, very few see how the global government of the beast can be defeated through Jesus Christ, but it is happening. There is already global turbulence in the formation of the global government, and it gets worse when it is fully established. It reaches its climax in the Battle of Armageddon and Jesus Christ comes back to knock down and kill this world’s system of government.
“But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.” 1 Samuel 17:34-35 The lion and bear are ferocious beasts who represents the “democratic” society of those living by the thing which forms their behaviors, thoughts, and feelings as they allow the image of the beast to live and speak through them. They ferociously come against the Lamb of God and all those who have made their body the home of His Spirit. That is obvious to see as the churches no longer present the Gospel of Christ and are no longer a place to gather in the Spirit of Christ. Yet, Jesus has come to rescue us from the evil in this world, “…who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,” Galatians 1:4 The lion and bear has been killed as Jesus has won the victory over sin and death.
“Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Samuel 17:36 Today, the uncircumcised are those who deny God, discard the need for Jesus Christ, and brings grievance to the Holy Spirit. They are defiant against the Gospel and everyone who lives by the teachings of the Bible. They are those who live by the thing that forms what they think, feel, and do as they live for the system of the beast. Jesus Christ defeats them like David did the lion and bear, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15
“Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:37a. Jesus has overcome the world when He died on the Cross and God raised Him from the dead three days later. “And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!” 1 Samuel 17:37b. While some are hoping for a victory over the global government of the beast in this world, it remains in power until after the Battle of Armageddon. Jesus comes back sometime after that. The Holy Spirit in us is the guarantee of victory over this world and a guarantee of eternal life to come.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
