Mary and Elizabeth: Joy and Praise in the Holy Spirit Believing in the Fulfillment of the Word of God

Luke 1:39-45

And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her house.” Luke 1:56

After remaining three months with Elzabeth, Mary returned home. Elizabeth is now nine months pregnant with Holy Spirit filled John the Baptist, who was born soon after Mary left.

Mary just learned that she is carrying Jesus Christ in her womb and Elizabeth has been carrying John the Baptist in her womb for six months. With that good news, Mary hurries to the house of Elizabeth and Zacharias, “Now Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, to a city of Judah, and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.” Luke 1:39-40 Anyone carrying the Holy Spirit, who comes through Jesus Christ, wants to meet with those who are carrying the good news of the coming of Jesus. And anyone who encourages people to prepare for the return of Jesus Christ, by the forgiveness of sin, will leap with joy knowing that someone has been fertilized with the Holy Spirit. That is the joy of fellowship within the body of Christ. Those who hear the greeting of the Spirit of Christ, and receives it joyfully, will be filled with the Holy Spirit, “And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” Luke 1:41

At this time, those filled with the Holy Spirit are John (still in the womb), Elizabeth, and Mary who is carrying the Son of God. The first thing that comes from our tongue after receiving the Holy Spirit is the glorification of the name of Jesus, and the humility to esteem others above ourselves, “Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Luke 1:42-43 There is a blessing in the name of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, for all who believe in the fulfillment of Scripture and the return of Jesus, “For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. Blessed is she who believed that there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Luke 1:44-45

From within the soul, a Holy Spirit filled person is full of praise and rejoicing for God through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit also makes us aware of the humble state of our existence in this sinful world and how blessed we will be to receive the inheritance of eternal life. By the Holy Spirit, we proclaim the Salvation given to us in the name of Jesus and share the news that His mercy and eternal life are for whoever believes in Him. Scriptures fill our heart and mind, as difficult as what it might be in this age where thoughts, feelings, and emotions are imposed on us by the thing that has power over physiology. It wants to make out heart and mind the seat of government for the mark of the beast. But the inmost part of our soul praises God for His strength and ability to scatter the boastful in the imagination of their hearts. They will never have heaven on earth, as they imagine, and as they boast, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” Revelation 13:4

Through Jesus Christ, God puts down the mighty from their throne and exalts the lowly. By the infilling of the Holy Spirit, those who hunger for righteousness will be filled. Those who live for the rewards of money and possessions will be sent away empty, they have a soul void of the presence of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus Christ came, He was offered to Israel first, and all the blessings of the Holy Spirit and eternal life was to be theirs. After they rejected Him, Jesus was offered to the whosoever. Believing God and coming to Jesus Christ makes all non-Jew Christians righteous in the eyes of God, as promised through Abraham.

With the Son of God in Mary’s womb, and in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, Mary says,

“And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.”
Luke 1:46-55
