- Sennacherib is exalted above every god of every nation.
- God is blasphemed on behalf of Sennacherib.
- Hezekiah’s representatives keep their peace but agonize over the contempt for the Living God.
Sennacherib is exalted above every god of every nation.
“Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria? Isaiah 36:18
Hezekiah was a king faithful to God in that he restored worship to Him and tore down the idols that the Israelites were serving. Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, knew that Hezekiah would attempt to persuade the Israelites of Judah to trust in God as their deliverer, instead of surrendering to the force of the Assyrians. Today, the beast does not want anyone to be persuaded that there is deliverance in the name of Jesus Christ. Those who live by what the beast gives them to say and do wants to continue to crucify Christ Jesus and to keep Him in a tomb within the heart, mind, and soul of people. Even so, we who have been born-again know the power of deliverance that the Lord brings to us through Jesus. We are able to live in the Light as the way of the Cross leads us into our eternal home of the New Jerusalem. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelations 7:10
The ambassador of Sennacherib, who had charge over a great army, began to boast, with contempt towards the living God, and exalted Sennacherib above every god of every nation, and above anything that was worshipped. He was boasting in his attitude and behavior, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” Revelations 13:4 The culture of the beast is making that very same boast today. They serve the beast that has power over physiology to give them what to say, do, think, and feel. The beast is able to sit in the temple of God, our body, by giving what to say and do. That beast is the one “…who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4 Click for a post on that.
The reason the culture of the beast boasts that no one can oppose them is because the beast empowers them with uncanny knowledge, heightened intuition, extraordinary skills and talents, amazing physical abilities, uncanny authority over others, fabricated emotional responses, etc. “All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelations 13:8
God is blasphemed on behalf of Sennacherib.
“Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered Samaria from my hand? Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’” Isaiah 36:19-20
The ambassador of Sennacherib blasphemed the Living God by saying that the Lord will never be able to deliver Jerusalem. Today, the beast that has power over physiology blasphemes God, the deliverance that comes through Jesus Christ, the followers of Jesus, and all of Heaven. Those who welcome the beast to speak and live through them are the mouth of the one who has “…opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelations 13:6-8
Today, we see how the global government has dominated every nation around the world. That is easily seen by how the global population are aware of most of the 17 goals of the “Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations. The United Nations was established in 1945, immediately after World War 2, and brought the government of the beast with it as described in Daniel 8:1-14 and also Revelations 17. People in every city around the world welcome the beast to speak and live through them, that is why it is called the global government of the beast.
The deliverance that our Lord Jesus Christ gives to us is not by the standards of this world, but is by the eternal standards of God, as Christ Jesus says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” John 5:24 Our deliverance does not come by political and military force that comes through flesh and blood reasoning, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
Our Lord Jesus Christ says plainly, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” John 18:36
Christ Jesus makes it clear that this is the “hour” of the power of darkness in this world, and we are to let them hear, not to try to stop them from listening to the beast that gives them what to say, do, think, and feel. “But this is [their] hour, and the power of darkness.” Luke 22:53 When they came out to arrest Jesus to be crucified on the Cross, one of His disciples cut off the right ear of one among them, but Jesus healed the ear, and said, “Permit even this.” Luke 22:51
“And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” Luke 22:47-53
Hezekiah’s representatives keep their peace but agonize over the contempt for the Living God.
“But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.” Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.” Isaiah 36:21-22
“They” who held their peace was Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah who went to hear the message sent by Sennacherib. Eliakim was like the chief-of-staff within Hezekiah’s administration. That would be like Christ Jesus who is the Chief-of-Staff within the administration of God the Father. Shebna was a scribe who was responsible for writing, copying, and preserving the Law, or the Scriptures. That is like all of us followers of Jesus Christ who have the word of God written on our heart. Our born-again experience is the Gospel of Christ written on our heart. Joah was a recorder responsible for writing notes of day-to-day events, similar to a person who records notes or the “minutes” within a meeting. As followers of Jesus Christ, we record the events happening within the world, which lets us know where the world is relating to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. “For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy” Revelations 19:10. If we want to know where the world is within prophecy we only have to see where Jesus is within the world.
The representatives of Hezekiah held their peace when they were confronted and antagonized with the boastful contempt spoken against the Living God. That is exactly what our Lord Jesus expects us to do when confronted by those who lust for conflict and who intend to make a mockery of God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God….But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all…be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.” ” James 1:19-20, 2 Timothy 2:23-24, Titus 3:1-2
As followers of Jesus Christ there is the agony of hearing the blaspheme against the deliverance brought through Jesus Christ and how the beast exalts itself above God. We know the culture of the beast intends to drive Christianity into extinction, as described in Revelations 12. Our clothing is “torn” to hear how those under the influence of the power of darkness speaks against the Light of Salvation in Jesus Christ.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
