Streams will be turned into pitch, dust into brimstone, and the land will become burning pitch.

Isaiah 34:8-12

“For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, the year of recompense for the cause of Zion.” Isaiah 34:8

The day of the Lord’s vengeance is known as the Day of the Lord, as described in the post on Zachariah 14, which corresponds to the return of Christ Jesus as the King of kings.

The vengeance of the Lord comes against those who live in darkness and despise the Light of Jesus Christ. They crucify Jesus daily as they reject what He has done for us to forgive sin and give life in the Spirit and eternal life. They oppose the presence of the Holy Spirit. They live for the beast that gives them what to say, do, think, and feel instead of living in the light as Christ Jesus is in the Light. “For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.” Revelations 16:6

The “year of recompense” is for the cause of Zion. Zion is the city of the Living God and the eternal place of everyone who lives for God, through Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant,” Hebrews 12:22-24

“For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they will become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.” Zachariah 2:8-9

“Its streams will be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone; Its land will become burning pitch. It will not be quenched night or day; Its smoke will ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie waste; No one will pass through it forever and ever.” Isaiah 34:9-10

The streams of the global government of the beast will be turned to pitch. Pitch was used to prevent water from seeping through water vessels and to seal up cracks in in walls etc. It was a dark, tar-like substance. For the streams to be turned to pitch means they wouldn’t be able to flow but were filled with gooey tar-like resin. Today’s culture rejects the flow of the clear Water of Life running through their heart, mind, and soul. They are those “…who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20 It is not possible for the fruit of the Holy Spirit to blossom from the dark tar that fills their spirit. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:19

For the dust to be turned to brimstone not only refers to the effects of global warming, which is the Fourth Plague of Revelations 16:8-9 but also refers to the dust of the human spirit that is dry of the Water of Life and void of the blossoms of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The dust will be turned to brimstone when those who live for the beast arrive in eternal Hell, “…he himself will also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.” Revelations 14:10

The land of the government of the beast, which is this planet, will become burning pitch. We all know that tar becomes very hot in the sun’s heat, and that will be the effect of global warming upon the earth. The more powerful the United Nations become as the undisputed one world government, the hotter and more intense the effects of global warming become, “Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.” Revelations 16:8-9

Also, the pitch of the dark tar within the human soul, will become hotter and hotter as love goes cold in the world. Lawlessness increases, social chaos is everywhere, and economic collapse plagues the world. “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” John 15:6 The fires of human calamity will be hot, but the fires of eternal hell will be much hotter.

The fires will not be quenched night or day; Its smoke will ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie waste, “And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” Revelations 14:11

This present heaven and earth will be destroyed…no one will pass through it forever and ever.

“But the pelican and the porcupine will possess it, also the owl and the raven will dwell in it. And He will stretch out over it the line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.” Isaiah 34:11

In the Bible, the pelican, owl, and raven were considered to be unclean. The porcupine has a skin of thorns. That describes the thorny and unclean spirit and soul of those who live in the dark tar and reject the clear Water of Life given through our Lord Jesus. That describes a world filled with demonic activity at the time of the collapse of the global government of the beast and its global culture, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’ She has become a dwelling for demons and a haunt for every impure spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable animal.” Revelations 18:2

The Lord stretches out over the global culture of the beast a line of confusion and the stones of emptiness. That will definitely happen when the power center of the beast is plunged into darkness in the Fifth Plague of Revelations 16:10-11. At that time, the global culture will be in confusion because the beast will be powerless to empower them. They will no longer haver uncanny knowledge, heightened intuition, extraordinary skills and talents, amazing physical abilities, uncanny authority over others, etc. They will be stones of emptiness, empty of everything the beast was giving them within their physiology and empty of the Spirit of God, empty of Jesus Christ, and empty of the Holy Spirit.

“They will call its nobles to the kingdom, but none will be there, and all its princes will be nothing.” Isaiah 34:12

The governors of cities, states, nations, and the world will not be able to answer the call for help coming from the global population. Today, the global leaders think that they are something as they promise salvation for humanity and the planet through the “Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations. In the Day of the Lord, they will not be there to offer any help whatsoever, the governors will be nothing.

“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” Revelations 7:10

The Lamb of God, Christ Jesus, gave His life on the Cross for forgiving our unbelief and to lead us home into the eternal New Jerusalem. The way of the Cross leads home,

 I must needs go home by the way of the Cross;
there’s no other way but this.
I will ne’er get sight of the Gates of Light
if the way of the Cross I miss.
The way of the Cross leads home.
The way of the Cross leads home.
It is sweet to know, as I onward go,
the way of the Cross leads home.
