All the merry-hearted sigh.
“The new wine fails, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh.” Isaiah 24:7
The “new wine fails” refers to the global falling away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as described in 2 Thessalonians 2. The New Wine is Jesus Christ, whom the Lord sent as the New Covenant, as quoted, “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” Hebrews 8:8, 13 The old covenant relates to the laws of Judaism.
The vine that languishes refers to our Lord Jesus as the Vine, from which the fruit of the Holy Spirit blooms, and each of His followers are His branches, blooming with the fruit of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 When that Vine languishes, that is the day that the Holy Spirit is taken from this world, and the Holy Spirit restrains lawlessness, as quoted, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.” 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 Click for a post on the “lawless one”.
The fruit of the Holy Spirit incudes everything that makes a person have a merry-heart from within the human spirit. Our fellowship with God is through the Spirit, not through the pleasures of the flesh nor through fabricated emotions. “…you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you… Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.” Romans 8:9, Philippians 2:1-2
When our Lord Jesus languishes from the rejection of this world, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ fails to be accepted in this world, the merry-hearted will sigh. The genuine joy, goodness, love, and peacefulness found in the Holy Spirit will be sheared by the beast that gives people what to feel, do, think, and say. Genuine joy is being replaced by fabricated emotions, making people like puppets on a string, or flesh and blood human robots.
The Lord says this to those who oppose the joy and merriment of the Spirit “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20
When the music plays, required to bow to the beast.
“The mirth of the tambourine ceases, the noise of the jubilant ends, the joy of the harp ceases. They will not drink wine with a song; Strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.” Isaiah 24:8-9
That verse brings an image of music, gladness, jubilation, and joy. That is the type of music and gladness that is found in the presence of the Holy Spirit, as quoted, “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of [f]God.” Ephesians 5:18-20
All of the joy, goodness, and jubilation found in the spirit ceases and ends, which we see happening in cities all around the world. Instead of drinking “wine with song”, those who drink find it to be bitter. In other words, people are being bitterly drawn into substance abuse, with no joy, goodness, or jubilation in their addiction. Here in Circleville, where I live, substance abuse is a crisis today, and has been for years. This same thing is going on in cities across the nation. With it comes the crisis of overdoses, homelessness, crime, violence, and death. The health department advises all citizens to carry Narcan with them in the event they run across a person who needs revived from an overdose. “Strong drink” has definitely become bitter to those who indulge in it.
The book of Daniel shares light on what is happening to the joy and jubilation of music, as quoted, “To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you will fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up; and whoever does not fall down and worship will be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.” Daniel 3:4-6
In other words, the beast that has power over physiology opposes the joy and goodness of music and opposes it within the fellowship of a gathering of people. That’s because the beast cannot exist in the presence of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The beast opposes the goodness of God, the unity found in Jesus Christ, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. When the music plays, people are required to bow to the beast that gives them what to feel within the rhythm of the music, how to behave and dance with the rhythm, what to think, and what to speak or sing. Because the beast has power over physiology, emotions are fabricated to give a sense of joy, but that is far removed from the joy and goodness of the Holy Spirit.
“Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon will be thrown down, and will not be found anymore. The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters will not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft will be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone will not be heard in you anymore. The light of a lamp will not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.” Revelations 18:21-24
Every person is shut-down to shut-out the joy and jubilation of the Holy Spirit.
“The city of confusion is broken down; Every house is shut up, so that none may go in.” Isaiah 24:10
During the times of the Bible, confusion related to chaos, social upheaval, and total disarray, in contrast to order, soberness, and calm. That global culture of today serves the beast that gives them what to speak, do, think, and feel, but their day of confusion is coming upon them. Their confusion will hit the hardest when the power center of the beast is plunged into darkness within the Fifth Plague of Revelations 16:10-11. The beast that has power over physiology, to give them fabricated joy and jubilation will be powerless. The global culture of the beast will no longer have a feeling of optimism that all will be OK. Instead, they will be left confused in a hostile world of lawlessness, a world where love has gone cold, and smiles drained from their faces.
“Every house is shut up” describes exactly how the global culture arrives to the confusion of a lawless world. People are the house that is being shut up. People are being shut-up to shut-out life of the Spirit, to shut-out the fruit of the Holy Spirit, to shut-out the fruit of joy and goodness. Jesus says, “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” Matthew 21:13 People are being robbed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and not allow to go into the presence of the Lord. The beast demands to be served as God as it enters into people [the temple of God] by giving everyone what to feel, think, say, and do, and is the one, “…who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Click here for a post on that.
When the house is shut to the Holy Spirit [who restrains lawlessness], then lawlessness is unleashed, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.” 2 Thessalonians 2:5-8 Click for a post on the “lawless one”.
The global culture will be crying out due to the absence of their merriment.
“There is a cry for wine in the streets, all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.” Isaiah 24:11
When the power center of the beast is plunged into darkness, those of the global culture of the beast will be crying out for the fabricated joy and jubilation the beast no longer is able to provide to them. All of their joy will be darkened and the optimism of the world’s population will be gone. Their beautiful looking smiles will be gone.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we can say with Habakkuk, by the Spirit of our Lord, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls—Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.” Habakkuk 3:17-19
In the global desolation, people will be yearning for whatever they can find of comfort and joy.
“In the city desolation is left, and the gate is stricken with destruction. When it will be thus in the midst of the land among the people, it will be like the shaking of an olive tree, like the gleaning of grapes when the vintage is done.” Isaiah 24:12-13
The city where desolation is left is the global city of the beast, which is the one world government and its global culture. The gate that is stricken with destruction is the gate that the government of the beast requires all people to pass through. People are required to enter into the gate where the beast is served that governs by giving them what to speak, do, think, and feel. That gate is destroyed in the Fifth Plague when the power center of the beast is plunged into darkness.
When desolation is all that is left of the global government and its global culture, it will be like the shaking of an olive tree, like the gleaning of grapes when the vintage is done. The reason an olive tree is shaken is to do do everything possible to have those very last few of olives at the top of the tree. In the global lawlessness, people will be doing everything they can to find whatever is left of earthly joy and happiness. They will also be like those gleaning the grapes of a vineyard that had already been harvested, trying to find some type of comfort in a cold, hard, lawless, and violent world.
Our Lord sent the prophets and His Son Jesus Christ to show us that He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere at the same time. What does He require of us? “…that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
