In the verses of this post, “…in that day…” refers to the destruction of Damascus, Syria, as described in in Isaiah 17:1-3. That refers to the time around the Battle of Armageddon [Revelations 16:12-16], and the Day of the Lord [Zachariah 14].
“In that day it will come to pass that the glory of Jacob will wane, and the fatness of his flesh grow lean.” Isaiah 17:4
The glory of Jacob was his twelve sons, whom each of the twelve tribes of Israel were named after. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28, as quoted, “And He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel…” That is why the twelve sons of Jacob are known as the twelve tribes of Israel. Today, we already see how much the glory of Israel has faded, and will wane even more so around the time of the Battle of Armageddon. The devastation of Israel is described in the post on the Day After from Ezekiel 39. Today, each one of the Jewish people probably have no idea what tribe their heritage is originally from. That is how much the fatness of Jacob/Israel has grown lean.
“…the fatness of his flesh grow lean…” refers to not much remaining of the Jewish population. But also refers to the fatness of the Spirit of God growing lean. We already see how they reject the word of God who says that He has sent Jesus as the Christ. Around the time of the Battle of Armageddon, the Jewish people will not only be lean in number, but also will be far removed from the word of God, very far removed from acknowledging Jesus as the Christ, and very far removed from the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The meaning of “Israel” means, “he struggles with God”, or “God strives”. That describes the Jewish people as especially seen with the Jewish people who live within the State of Israel. They will continue to struggle with God and God will continue to strive with Israel until they acknowledge Jesus as the Christ and Son of God, as quoted, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ” Matthew 23:37-39
“It will be as when the harvester gathers the grain, and reaps the heads with his arm; It will be as he who gathers heads of grain in the Valley of Rephaim.” Isaiah 17:5
That verse is comparing the rich glory of Israel to the rich and fertile fields of the Valley of Rephaim. However, in the day around the Battle of Armageddon, their glory will be reaped, they will be reaped in the same way that the grain in the Valley of Rephaim was harvested. The harvesters thoroughly reaped the grain, catching any fallen grain in their arms while cutting down wheat. The global population of Jewish people will be harvested from this world under the watchful eye of the global government of the beast and its global culture.
“Yet gleaning grapes will be left in it, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives at the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in its most fruitful branches,” Says the Lord God of Israel.” Isaiah 17:6
Gleaning grapes are the grapes left behind after the vineyard was harvested, which was very few. A very few remnant of Israel will exist around the time of the Battle of Armageddon, especially the Day After the Battle of Armageddon.
The shaking of an olive tree was done for the purpose of causing the olives on top of the tree to fall to the ground, so that they too could be harvested. In the most fruitful branches, there would only be four or five olives remaining. That is describing Israel “…in that day…”. In the most populated Jewish areas, there will only be about “four” or “five” Jewish people there. Today, the largest majority of the Jewish population lives in the State of Israel, the smaller majority lives in the United States, and then just a few live in other countries around the world. The population of Jewish people in the United States and Israel will become like the few Jewish people who live in other countries.
The fruitful remnant, who has the grapes of the New Wine [who is Jesus Christ] and has the olive oil of the Holy Spirit, will be saved and given eternal life. That will be very few of the Jewish population, and is described in the Day After the Battle of Armageddon from Ezekiel 39. Whoever has faith in Jesus Christ, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, receives eternal life in the New Jerusalem of the new heaven and earth, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
In the law of Moses, it was required not to harvest a field completely, but to leave some gleanings behind for the poor and the strangers, “When you reap the harvest of your land, you will not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor will you gather the gleanings of your harvest. And you will not glean your vineyard, nor will you gather every grape of your vineyard; you will leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:9-10
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
