“Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.” 2 Timothy 2:14
Paul was instructing Timothy on what to minister to those of the Church in Ephesus. That is the message the Holy Spirit speaks to us today; not to debate and argue over words that leads no where. Those debates only ruin those who are trying to hear the Holy Spirit through all of the tits-and-tats going back-and-forth. Those who serve the beast that gives them what to say and do purposely cause thorns to sprout up when the Bible is being talked about. Today’s culture creates as much interference as possible to belief in God, faith in Jesus Christ, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Diligence is a companion to perseverance, patience, and self-control. That is what we need when unbelievers try to engage us in verbal combat. We need to persevere in a meek and gentle spirit of peace with kindness and goodwill. In doing that, we are able to unashamedly speak of our born-again experience, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ written on our heart. We purpose to rightly divide the word of truth, and not to use scriptures to promote a secular cause. Jesus died on the Cross and was raised from the dead to atone for sin, not for His words to be used to proclaim the teachings of humanism. Humanism is the fig leaf worn by those who live for the beast that gives them what to speak, do, think, and feel. Humanism is defined as “...an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.”
“But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.” 2 Timothy 2:16-18
The truth of the resurrection from the dead was being distorted in very believable ways. Some were affirming that Jesus Christ had been resurrected but then said that it was done and over. They did not speak of the resurrection of the spirit that brings the born-again experience. Neither did they speak of the resurrection from the grave that will happen at the return of Jesus Christ. In other words, they were destroying the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which promises eternal life. They took away hope of life beyond the grave which forced people’s focus onto earthly and worldly rewards. That is exactly what today’s atheistic culture is doing to the word of God. “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” 1 Corinthians 15:19
Those are the same people that will say that Jesus Christ has already come, went home, and that is all there is. Our Lord Jesus says this, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3
“Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
