“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David.” 2 Timothy 2:8

The proof that Jesus is the Christ comes through the Old Testament scriptures. That soothed the conscience of the Jewish people that they were being true to the laws and the prophets and not guilty of blaspheme. The earthly genealogy of Jesus verified that He was indeed in David’s family tree. That could be verified by any Jewish leader because Mary and Joseph were both from the the Tribe of Judah, the same as David. Jesus was born of a virgin birth by the Spirit of God, God being His Father and Mary His mother. The Christ was prophesied to come from the line of David. Psalms 132:11: Confirms God’s oath to David that one of his descendants would sit on his throne. 2 Samuel 7:12-16: God promises David that his descendant will build a house for God’s name and his throne will be established forever. Isaiah 11:1 and Isaiah 11:10: Prophesies a “shoot from the stump of Jesse” (David’s father) who will rule the nations. Jeremiah 23:5: Describes the Messiah as a “righteous Branch” from David’s line who will reign wisely.

Within the verses above, about Jesus Christ being the Messiah from the lineage of David, the message of eternal life of Jesus and His ministry to the Gentiles [non-Jewish] are also spoken about. Paul was encouraging Timothy that his faith was being well-placed in Jesus Christ. who was raised from the dead and descended from David.

“This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 2:10-13

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
