“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; Seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.” Isaiah 1:16-17
The Lord speaks those words to the Jewish people of today the same as speaking to today’s atheistic global culture.
- Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean: This washing and cleansing is not the type that we find in hospitals where every room has to be kept “spick-and-span”. The internal washing and cleansing comes in the spirit and soul, within our attitudes, words, and behaviors. This cleansing comes by faith in Jesus Christ who shed His blood on the Cross to put sin in remission and to enable life in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes: What is evil in the eyes of God? Not believing in Him, discarding the need for His Son Jesus Christ, and oppressing the presence of the Holy Spirit. That is why the beast is evil for giving people what to speak, do, think, and feel instead of allowing people to come to God through Jesus Christ in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Cease to do evil, learn to do good: Doing good comes through the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which allows us to present the Good News of Jesus Christ. Such fruit includes love, kindness, goodwill, peace, meekness, gentleness, faith, joy, goodness, patience, self-control, and perseverance. Ceasing to do evil means to cease doing everything mentioned in this verse, “Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.” Revelations 13:6-7 The “he” in this verse is the beast of the image and mark, name, and number of the beast.
- Seek justice, rebuke the oppressor: Justice comes through the righteousness and Salvation of Jesus Christ. Oppression comes through the beast that requires all people to worship the image of the beast that is given life/breath to speak by speaking and living through people. The oppressor is rebuked by simply believing God, acknowledging Jesus as the Christ and our Lord and Savior, and embracing the presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Defend the fatherless, plead for the widow: The beast makes orphans and widows of everyone who refuses to join today’s culture that functions through the beast that gives people what to do, say, feel, and think. In fact, fathers are no longer the head of families because the beast exalts itself above Christ, and God intends Christ to be head of the family. There seems to be more women than men who are in charge of everything nowadays. As followers of Jesus Christ, may compassion, mercy, and grace live through us for the outcasts, homeless, destitute, and sufferers in today’s world.
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18
Scarlet and crimson symbolizes the deepest stains that a person can encounter. Our Lord Jesus Christ makes those stains of sin as white as snow. As we know, snowflakes have a speck of dirt at its center, the same as every human being has inherited sin. We are made white as snow, not because we have reached perfection, but His Holiness in us is counted as righteousness. When God sees His Son in us, He considers us to be white as snow, but without Christ, God sees us as the sinner we really are. For our sin to be like wool is to live in the presence of the dove of the Holy Spirit. By our faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to us like a dove, a sheep, a lamb, and our sin is made like wool through Him. A meek and gentle spirit of peace is of the Lord.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Isaiah 1:19-20
That verse is John 3:16 spoken by the Spirit through Isaiah, which is spoken to the Jewish people as well as to all the world, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Our Lord Jesus spoke these words to the Jewish people, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ” Matthew 23:37-39
The Holy Spirit speaks these words through John, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:11-13
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
