“So they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.” Acts 16:40

Lydia’s house was in Philippi, the same city where Paul and Silas were asked to depart after being imprisoned [Acts 16:39]. Paul and Silas did depart from Philippi and went to Thessalonica, but not before encouraging fellow believers.

Paul and his companions met Lydia in Philippi, where she said “Yes” to Jesus Christ through the ministry of Paul, Silas, Timothy, and Luke. Before being born-again, Lydia was a wealthy and influential businesswoman, as described in Acts 16:11-15 who was an important part of the social/economic system of Philippi. After becoming part of the way of Jesus Christ, she used her wealth and influence to ground the Churches in Philippi and Thyatira. Thyatira was Lydia’s hometown.

As followers of Jesus Christ, whatever difficulties, afflictions, and tribulation we suffer, we always have the desire within us, through the Holy Spirit, to encourage fellow Believers. When one door closes to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we wait for the Holy Spirit to open a new opportunity. Patience is something we need, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:2-3

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
