Introduction to the creation: From water life, to birds, to creeping things on earth, to beasts and animals, to human beings.

Like many in today’s world, Habakkuk asked the Lord, “Why do You make men like fish of the sea, like creeping things that have no ruler over them?” Habakkuk 1:14

People throughout the ages grapple with believing in God the Creator vs. “Mother Nature” as the creator. There is always the comparison that the planet is dated to be a few billion years old while the Scriptures are dated back to about 4000 years. Of course, the creation of planet Earth and human beings is much older than the Scriptures, but that is no reason to discredit that God is the Creator of all, “…although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.” Romans 1:21-23

The planet being much older than human beings [through whom the Scriptures are written] is exactly what the Holy Scriptures teach. On the first day of creation there was no human life, none. Nobody was here on earth when it was without form and void. There was no human life the second day of creation, not the third, nor the fourth, not even the fifth. The planet was around much before a human being even appeared. Human beings appeared on this earth on the sixth day of creation, the very last day of creation. People were created after the creation of water life, birds, crawling things, beasts and the animals of this earth. As the Bible teaches, the planet and all other life forms are much older than the creation of human beings.

How can the Scriptures describe the very beginning of creation when no one was around to witness God’s creation? Because the Scriptures are given by the inspiration of God. All scriptures, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 are given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Just how inspired is the account of creation by the Spirit of God? Today, modern science has ways to date the earth and written texts, but the writing of the Scriptures, by the inspiration of God, did not have those dating abilities. Even so, the writer of the book of Genesis knew the earth was much older than human beings and even knew that water life, birds, crawling things, and beasts of the earth were created before human beings. All of that “knowledge” came by the inspiration of the Spirit of God, the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. What the experts of today call “knowledge”, the writers of the Scriptures had none of that [they had the inspiration of the Spirit of God].

Those writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit knew that the earth was without form and void like the moon. But they knew that Life was on the planet because the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters, and God is Life. They knew that the sun and moon were established at this time, and there was a time of daylight and darkness as a result. They knew that after the sun was established, an atmosphere formed, called the sky or heaven, and that firmament separated the waters of the sky from the waters on the earth. This would be the separation of water in the clouds from the water on the earth.

Under the inspiration of the Spirit, the writer giving the account of creation knew that the waters were gathered together into one place as the dry land appeared. In other words, by the Spirit of God, it was known that with all of the water covering the earth, somehow dry land appeared. No longer would the planet be a round-shaped ball in a bowl of water, but the planet broke out to form dry land that surfaced to create the separation of the Earth from the Seas. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the writer giving the account of the creation knew that after the Earth appeared vegetation began to grow. We all know that water is necessary to grow vegetation, and the earth was thoroughly saturated with water.

All of the vegetation on the earth was going through phases of producing and not producing, and responding to light and darkness in different ways. Today, seasons are named to understand the phases, the phases of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Today, it is important to be able to keep track of days and years, and the light and darkness gave us the calendar. Also, the lights were established as signs, such as the “North Star” for navigation, but also for other reasons. For example, “And there will be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring…” Luke 21:25-33 Global warming is one such sign as stated in Revelations 16:8-9.

The ability to be able to keep track of seasons, days and years, and to follow the signs in the sky is essential for all created life. Water life and birds depend on seasons, days, years, and signs in the sky to navigate through their existence [as do all of creation]. Even fisherman follow the barometer to know when fish will be biting. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the writer of the account of creation knew that water life and birds were created before the beasts and animals of this earth, and before human beings.

By the inspiration of the Spirit of God, the writer of Genesis knew that after water life and birds were created then came the creation of creeping things, cattle, and every type of beast and animal of the earth.

After the earth appeared, after the creation of vegetation, water life, birds, and every earthly animal that walks and crawls on this earth, God created human beings. The writer of Genesis knew this without scientific knowledge by the inspiration of God.

Whenever God is not acknowledged as the Creator of all, then it leads to spiritual corruption, leads to the rejection of Jesus Christ, and leads to fighting against the Holy Spirit. “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.” Romans 1:22-23

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great [d]lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
