“Woe is me! For I am like those who gather summer fruits, like those who glean vintage grapes; There is no cluster to eat of the first-ripe fruit which my soul desires. The faithful man has perished from the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; Every man hunts his brother with a net.” Micah 7:1-2
The Holy Spirit, through Micah, is expressing the mourning for the absence of the fruit of the Spirit within the world. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are those who desire to gather “summer fruits” and to “glean vintage grapes”. Unfortunately, there are no clusters of the fruit of the Spirit and those faithful to God through Jesus Christ are perishing from the earth. The extinction of Christian births is described in Revelation 12. The faithful person has perished from the earth, society is in turmoil, and even family members are “at each other’s throat”.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are to walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh, as described in Galatians 5:16-26. We also know how much the culture of this world insists that we walk by the flesh and especially that we walk by the entity with power over physiology to give thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that enflame the desires of the flesh. The reason that the desires of the flesh are enflamed is because the flesh wars against the spirit, which is to draw us away from serving God through Jesus Christ, who gives us the Holy Spirit.
Today’s world culture, no question about the city where I live, and in the United States as whole, people living for the flesh is obvious. There is adultery in marriages, fornication among singles, lewdness, uncleanness of spirit and attitude. This includes serving today’s false god that replaces the conscience and spirit to intertwine itself within what people think, feel, say, and do. The world is filled with hatred, as a big campaign against “hate speech” and “hate crimes” is global. People are contentious with one another, filled with jealousy, there are outbursts of anger and violence in every sector of society, including government “town meetings”, press conferences, restaurants, homes, in relationships, everywhere. People are filled with selfish ambitions as they are seeking self-enrichment as they fear losing their respect if they share with others. Society is filled partisan dissension and there are heresies in the churches as the Gospel of Christ has been abandoned. Without a doubt, the world culture is filled with envy, murders, substance abuse, revelries in street parties etc.,
“The faithful man has perished from the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; Every man hunts his brother with a net.”
Jesus Christ gives us the Holy Spirit, and He restrains lawlessness, but as He is taken from this world, lawlessness abounds, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed…” 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 Click here for a post on the “lawless one”.
Genesis chapter 6 describes the day of the “superhumans” in which “…the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
