“Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.” Micah 5:1
The Lord, through Micah, is saying to the State of Israel to gather her troops and prepare for the judgment of God. The Lord has come against Israel, the “daughter of troops”, as described in Ezekiel 22:19-21. The State of Israel is a “daughter of troops” in the sense that she is the daughter of the United States. The USA supplies Israel with military aid relating to intelligence, expertise, combat support, training, equipment, etc. Ezekiel 17 and Ezekiel 19 describes the United State supplying military aid to Israel and Ezekiel 26-32 speaks on the judgment of God coming against America for arming countries around the world. God’s judgment comes against Israel and the United States; Israel for relying on might and power instead of the Spirit of the Lord, and America for supplying Israel with military aid.
The rulers and judges of Israel are definitely being struck on the cheek for all the world to see.
Where the verse of Micah 5:1 is speaking of the State of Israel, the next verse of this post is referring to Christ and His followers. The Bible makes a clear distinction between the Jewish people who reject Jesus as the Christ and we who live for God through Jesus Christ. The split in the house of Israel, between the north kingdom of Israel and the south kingdom of Judah is described in Micah 1:1.
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
The phrase, “But you, Bethlehem…” is showing the difference between the north kingdom of Israel [as described in the above paragraphs] from Bethlehem. Ephrathah is of Bethlehem and is in the kingdom of Judah. Our Lord Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem [from the Tribe of Judah] and is the One who was born by the Spirit of God to be ruler over the whole house of Israel, as quoted, “Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child…..For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:4-5,11. Jesus is “…from of old, from everlasting” referring to this, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3
“Therefore He will give them up, until the time that she who is in labor has given birth; Then the remnant of His brethren will return to the children of Israel.” Micah 5:3
This verse is saying that the Jewish people are left without a Savior, their Christ, until the time that Mary, the mother of Jesus, gives birth to Him. Then, through Jesus, the Jewish people would be able to unite as one, as the whole house of the children of Israel. When our Lord Jesus Christ was born on this earth, the Jewish people rejected Him, and God made us His children, part of the house of Israel. We are Israel, the descendants of Abraham, as quoted, “…For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham…that is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed… if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Romans 9:6-7, Galatians 3:29
“And He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God; And they shall abide, for now He shall be great to the ends of the earth; And this One will be peace.” Micah 5:4-5a
Our Lord Jesus stands to be the Good Shepherd of His flock, in the power of the Spirit of God, not by the power and might of this world, no military force whatsoever. He comes in the name of God His Father, not in His own name. “I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” John 1o:14-16 Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees when speaking of the “other sheep…not of this fold” which refers to all of us non-Jewish people.
We who are of His flock abides in Him and He abides in us. “By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” 1John 4:13
Our Lord Jesus has become great to the ends of the earth, referring to being known in all parts of the world and will be known until His return. And Jesus is Peace, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” John 14:27 The peace that Jesus gives comes through the Spirit not through military conquest.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
