Ruth is prayed about to be like Rachael, Leah, and Tamar who gave birth to the Jewish people.

Ruth 4:11-12

“And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the Lord will give you from this young woman.” Ruth 4:11-12

Boaz [a Jewish man from Bethlehem, Judah] redeemed Ruth [a gentile woman from Moab], which symbolizes our Lord Jesus Christ [Jewish from the tribe of Judah] redeeming all of us non-Jewish Gentiles. This fulfilled the promise of God to make Abraham’s descendants very many, “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29

Ruth is important in the genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ because she was a Moabitess, not what the Jewish people considered to be up to the standards of God. This symbolizes that we are sinners saved by grace not saved by the letter of the laws of Judaism. Also, Ruth married Boaz, and he was the son of a prostitute named Rahab, and his father was a Jewish man named Salmon, [Matthew 1:5 and Joshua 6:25], The story of Rahab can be read in Joshua 2. Ruth is also compared to having a “house” that was given birth through Tamar, and Tamar disguised herself as a prostitute to have children with the man named Judah, which prevented the extinction of the tribe of Judah, whose tribe Christ is from. The story of Tamar is found in Genesis 38 also click here for a post on Genesis 38.

Ruth is also compared to Rachael and Leah, who gave birth to the twelve sons of Jacob. The twelve sons of Jacob are the fathers of the Twelve Tribes of Israel as each tribe is named after one of the sons. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28, thus comes the term, the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

While Rachael and Leah gave birth to the population of the Jewish people, Ruth was important in the lineage giving birth to Jesus Christ who gave birth to the population of the family of God, Christianity. The story of Ruth is the “scarlet cord” pointing to our Lord Jesus as being the Christ and Savior of the world. The world became filled with the offspring of Jesus Christ. Before that, the Jewish culture, led by the Pharisees, detested that Jesus was bringing the Kingdom of God to Gentiles, non-Jewish, and sinners who were not worthy of God. They accused Him of blasphemy, being a devil, and consorting with the worst people of society. Today, as being born-again through Jesus Christ, we are those sinners who Christ calls us His own, the “prostitute” He married and whom He calls His bride. Like Ruth, Rahab, Tamar, Boaz, etc. we are now in the family tree of Jesus Christ.

Ruth, Boaz, and Rahab are in the genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ, “Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king.” Matthew 1:5-6 Rahab was a “born-again” prostitute who gave birth t0 Boaz, the husband of Ruth. Ruth was the great grandmother of king David, from whose lineage the Christ would come. Judah, Tamar, and Zerah are also mentioned in the lineage of Jesus Christ, “Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar…” Matthew 1:2-3

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1
