“Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?Now Boaz, whose young women you were with, is he not our relative? In fact, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor. Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment and go down to the threshing floor; ” Ruth 3:1-3
Naomi wanted security for Ruth during the night when Boaz was winnowing the grain on the threshing floor. Naomi advised Ruth to wash, anoint herself, and to put on her best clothing and to go to the threshing floor. Today, we see that God is winnowing the grain on the threshing floor, which refers to the judgment He brings on this earth. Winnowing on the threshing floor is the process of separating the grain from the chaff, gathering the grain into storage and burning the rest. Those who live for God through Jesus Christ are the grain and those engrossed in the destructive sin of the flesh are the chaff, “His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Jon 3:12 “The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
As followers of Jesus Christ, we want others to know there is security and rest in Jesus Christ in this atheistic world that is living on the threshing floor of God’s judgment. We share the Gospel of Christ with others, our own born-again experience, that we need to be washed in the blood of Jesus Christ who brings grace, mercy, and forgiveness. This transforms us from living for the values of this atheistic world to live by the values given to us through the Spirit. We are anointed with the Holy Spirit as we live for Jesus and the clothing we wear is the Spirit. In this cleanliness [in the eyes of God] we have security on the threshing floor, the security of eternal life instead of eternal death in the fire of hell.
The Holy Spirit is our security of eternal life, “In [Jesus] you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14 We are the purchased possession [purchased by the blood of our Lord Jesus] and our redemption comes when we are resurrected from the grave into the eternal New Jerusalem.
Boaz was doing his threshing of the grain at night, which symbolizes God’s judgment during the last hours of this earth. This “night” judgment refers to the tribulation within the “Seven Trumpets” of Revelation 8,9, and 11 and the “Seven Plagues” of Revelation 16. The Seven Seals of Revelation 6 have already started to open which happens before the Seven trumpets sound and the Seven Plagues come. Global warming is in the world today and is the Fourth Plague of Revelation 16:8-9. The more powerful the United Nations become as the one world government, the hotter and more intense the effect of global warming becomes.
God has given us security before the Seven Trumpets sound and the Seven Plagues come, as quoted, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” Revelation 7:3 Click here for a post from Revelation 7 on the seal of God put on the forehead.
For those who believe a “rapture” will save them from tribulation and the threshing floor, then they also believe that they can keep an eye on Christian graves to know when their rapture will come. When they see that Christian graves are empty, then they will believe that their rapture comes after that. That is what these verses say out of context, “And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them…” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
In context, the passage in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 says that the return of Jesus Christ, the rising of the dead Christians, and the living Christians being brought up to Christ is all one event. When Jesus Christ returns, the dead Christians will rise from their graves, then in a split second, the alive Christians will be caught up with them [at the same time] and we all, meet our Lord Jesus together, in the clouds. As quoted, “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
Jesus Christ prayed this prayer, “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” John 17:15
“…but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do.” And she said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.” Ruth 3:3b-5
Naomi said to Ruth [the gentile Moabitess], “…do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.” This refers to Ruth not bothering Boaz until after he had eaten and had something to drink after working all night on the threshing floor to separate the grain from the chaff. In essence, the work of our Lord Jesus Christ was to bring His own people, the Jewish people, back to God by serving Him in the Spirit and not by the letter of the law. Only after His work with the Jewish people was done, after His death and resurrection, did His gospel to the gentile non-Jewish people began to be widely recognized. As quoted, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God…”John 1:11-12 In this sense, Jesus was working to separate anyone who believed in Him [the wheat] from the unbelieving Jewish culture [the chaff].
Naomi advised Ruth to lay at the feet of Boaz when He lays down for the night. When our Lord Jesus lays down, the one place where we want to be is at His feet, as an act of devotion to Him even though we may not sense a presence or response from Him. Storms arise on this earth when Jesus lays down, as described in the passage of Matthew 8:23-27 “And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.” Matthew 8:24 When Jesus lays down, the Holy Spirit is scarce in this world, and the Holy Spirit is the one who restrains lawlessness, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”2 Thessalonians 2:7-8
At the feet of our Lord Jesus Christ, He explains to us what to do in the time of His judgment upon this earth, and this verse says a lot to us, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4 The story of Rahab in Joshua 2 describes this. As followers of Jesus, we do not bring judgment and condemnation but want people to know of His grace and mercy, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
