“For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.” Obadiah 1:15
Obadiah, through the Holy Spirit, is speaking of the judgment that will come to the enemies of Israel when the Day of the Lord comes. They will be judged according to their works.
Click here for a post on the Day of the Lord from Zachariah 14. We know the Day of the Lord is near because global warming is here and is the Fourth Plague mentioned in Revelation 16:8-9. The more powerful the United Nations become as the one world government, the hotter and more intense the effects of the sun’s heat become. Global warming is instrumental in bringing the destruction of the power center of the beast [mentioned in the Fifth Plague of Revelation 16:10-11]. Because of the destruction of the power center of the beast, the entity that has power over physiology will no longer exist. There will no longer be uncanny knowledge, heightened intuition, extraordinary talents and skills, uncanny authority over others, amazing physical feats etc. After that, the Battle of Armageddon comes as described in the Sixth Plague of Revelation 16:11-16. Then, our Lord Jesus Christ returns during the Seventh Plague when the Seventh Trumpet blows.
After the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, the judgment comes beyond the grave where people are judged according to what they have done, “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.” Revelation 20:12
“For as you drank on My holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually; Yes, they shall drink, and swallow, and they shall be as though they had never been. “But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, and no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,” for the Lord has spoken.” Obadiah 1:16-18
Today, we see what the State of Israel is drinking referring to the surrounding hostilities where Israel has been in 17 wars since the people gathered to the State of Israel in 1948. Click for a list of those wars and scroll close to the bottom of the page. Likewise, as Israel is drinking, all nations of this earth will drink continually in the great tribulation to come through the events of the Seven Trumpets [Revelation 8, 9, and 11]and the events of the Seven Plagues in Revelation 16. They will also drink continually of the consequences of hell beyond the grave.
We who live for God through Jesus Christ and welcome the Holy Spirit will experience Salvation on Mount Zion, the Heavenly city of the eternal New Jerusalem, “We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion; We’re marching upward to Zion, the beautiful city of God. [Church Song] We who are born-again in the Spirit are the house of Jacob [name changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28], so we belong to the house of Israel, “For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham…But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” Romans 9:6-7 and John 1:12-13
As the house of Jacob/Israel, everything we lack in this world will be more than given back to us in the eternal New Jerusalem, as our Lord Jesus Christ promises, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.” Matthew 19:28-29
The phrase, “The house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, and no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,” for the Lord has spoken.” refers to the rewards of eternal life for everyone born-again through Jesus Christ and eternal hell for everyone who rejects Him. John the Baptist said this about Jesus Christ, “His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:12 Our Lord Jesus speaks the parable of the wheat and the chaff in Matthew 13:24-30.
“The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, and the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. And the captives of this host of the children of Israel shall possess the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad shall possess the cities of the South. Then deliverers shall come to Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” Obadiah 1:19-21
In these verses, God is giving the promised land to the Jewish people, the house of Jacob/Israel, which everyone born of Jesus Christ belong to the house of Israel. The promised land is not the State of Israel but is the eternal New Jerusalem in the new heaven and earth.
All of the promises made to Israel in the Old Testament has been transferred to those who live for God through Jesus Christ. There are no promises of blessings for the Jewish people in the New Testament until they acknowledge Jesus as Christ and Son of God, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’” Matthew 23:37-39
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
