“By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. “I will rise now,” I said, “And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.” I sought him, but I did not find him. The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, “Have you seen the one I love?” Scarcely had I passed by them, when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, and into the chamber of her who conceived me.” Song of Solomon 3:1-4

The words above are spoken by the Shulamite woman after sleeping with king Solomon and then not finding him in bed with her. She rose up from bed to find him but didn’t have a clue of where he was. Then, when she came across those watching over the city, she asked, “Have you seen the one I love?” Almost immediately after that, she found him, held onto him, and would not let him go. When she did find him, she brought him into the room of her mother’s.

This is part of the “scarlet cord” of the Old Testament that points to the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary went to the place where the body of Jesus laid, but He was no longer laying there, she could not find Him. The watchman, or angel, knew Mary was seeking Jesus and said, “He is not here; for He is risen…” The watchman [angel] directed Mary to go into the city and there she would see Him. As quoted, “But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7

The Shulamite woman said, I held him and would not let him go, until I had brought him to the house of my mother, and into the chamber of her who conceived me. This foreshadows receiving the Holy Spirit within the chamber of our spirit, heart, and soul after Christ’s resurrection. This is where we hold onto Him and not let Him go, as our Lord Jesus said, “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper [Holy Spirit] will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” John 16:5-7

After finding her love, the Shulamite spoke these words to the “Daughters of Jerusalem”, “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the does of the field, do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases.” Song of Solomon 3:5 The Shulamite wanted all of the “Daughters of Jerusalem” to know that true love is worth waiting for, and they should not try to force love to happen.

Today, the “Daughters of Jerusalem” are each one of us who are born-again through Jesus Christ and adopted into the family of God. His love is worth waiting for and we should not settle for the love of this world. For example, in the 60’s, the words “love” and “peace” were popular but far from the true love and peace found in Jesus Christ.

The Shulamite woman is speaking these words, “Who is this coming out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the merchant’s fragrant powders? Behold, it is Solomon’s couch, with sixty valiant men around it, of the valiant of Israel. They all hold swords, being expert in war. Every man has his sword on his thigh because of fear in the night.” Song of Solomon 6-8

The Song of Solomon chapters 3 and 4 are describing the wedding ceremony of king Solomon to the Shulamite woman. As specifically said, “And see King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, the day of the gladness of his heart.” Song of Solomon 3: 11 In chapter three, the Shulamite describes Solomon, and in chapter 4 Solomon describes the Shulamite on that day of matrimony. We are invited to the wedding ceremony of the Lamb, “Then He said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” Revelation 19:9

The wedding supper of the Lamb happens after His return, which happens after His death and resurrection. Who is this coming out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the merchant’s fragrant powders? Our Lord Jesus was buried with a hundred pounds of spices [perfumes etc.] “After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus… And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.” John 19:38-40 Jesus Christ returns with the clouds, “Behold, He is coming with clouds…” Revelation 1:7

The Shulamite woman said, Behold, it is Solomon’s couch, with sixty valiant men around it, of the valiant of Israel. They all hold swords, being expert in war. Every man has his sword on his thigh because of fear in the night. This is the “scarlet cord” of the Old Testament pointing to the return of Jesus. The couch was a portable one, with six men carrying it, sixty valiant men all around it, which refers to the Throne of Christ, the King of kings. “He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:13-16

The Shulamite continues describing Solomon on their wedding day, the day he is crowned, “Of the wood of Lebanon Solomon the King made himself a palanquin: He made its pillars of silver, its support of gold, its seat of purple, its interior paved with love by the daughters of Jerusalem. Go forth, O daughters of Zion, and see King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, the day of the gladness of his heart.” Song of Solomon 3:9-11

A “palanquin” is a portable throne of sorts, carried by six of Solomon’s valiant men, but much more luxurious than the palanquin pictured below. Solomon’s palanquin made with the wood of Lebanon, a palanquin with silver pillars, supports of gold, its seat of purple, and its interior paved with the love of the “Daughters of Israel”. This is the “scarlet cord” of the Old Testament pointing to the Throne of Christ as the King of kings and Lord of lords. Click here for a description of the Throne Room of God from Revelation 4 The “Daughters of Jerusalem” are every one of us who are born-again through Jesus Christ, and His throne is paved with our love for Him.

The Shulamite describes Solomon with the crown on his head that his mother placed there on their wedding day. The Shulamite wanted all the daughters of Zion to see her beloved, Come O daughters of Zion, and see King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, the day of the gladness of his heart.” Song of Solomon 3:9-11 We are the “Daughters of Zion”, born-again with a home in the heavenly city of Zion, the New Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit wants us to see our Lord Jesus Christ with His crown sitting on His head as the King of kings and Lord of lords. This is a joyous wedding day of the Lamb as we are united with Him eternally in Zion, the New Jerusalem.

Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.
We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1
