The life of the Spirit in us conveys compassion to others, something the written laws cannot do.

“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

Paul is teaching the Galatians that the laws of Judaism are not enough to change a person’s heart and mind but by living in the Spirit is what changes us on the inside. In that light, we all play a role in helping one another to remain in Jesus Christ as our service to God. This is why our Lord Jesus said that loving one another as ourselves and loving God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, is enough to be right with God, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40

In helping one another to subdue the aspects of carnal human nature, we are to be gentle, not arrogant, harsh, or cruel in our words and demeanor. “But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!” Galatians 5:15 We do not want to be tempted in hacking away the spiritual fruit, living by the tactics of today’s culture, but always allow the Spirit’s fruit to blossom in what we say and do, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load. Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.” Galatians 6:2-6

The law is just lifeless written words and is not a living person, that is why God wants His word to live in us by the Spirit through Jesus Christ. What the written law cannot do, we can do as living human beings living in the Holy Spirit. The law cannot carry the burdens of people, but people can carry the burdens of other people with personalized words. In this way, we fulfill the law of Christ which is alive in us by the Spirit. When we think we are better than others, it is extremely difficult to be on one another’s level where we can help others make it through their day-to-day hardships. Let’s examine ourselves because within our own heart is where we find peace and joy, not in what others do or don’t do. Judging what others do or don’t do prevents us from feeling compassion for them, so let’s keep our focus on where our own heart is with Jesus Christ.

Each one of us has our own load to carry, we have our own responsibilities, so let’s watch our own actions so that we can be proud of our own accomplishments in Jesus Christ without comparing ourselves to others. Let’s share in the good things we are taught so that we can rejoice together with our Good Shepherd.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1
