The old promise passes away as life is given to the new through Jesus Christ.

Galatians 4:21-31

Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written:

“Rejoice, O barren,
You who do not bear!
Break forth and shout,
You who are not in labor!
For the desolate has many more children
Than she who has a husband.”

Galatians 4:21-27

Focusing first on verse 25 puts everything else in the verses in perspective, “…for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children…” Galatians 4:25

Jerusalem [the non-believing Jewish people and specific mention of the State of Israel], are in bondage to this date. About 2000 years ago, the Jewish people rejected Jesus Christ as the Christ and Son of God, preferring to hold on to the laws of Judaism. They have chosen the covenant that came through Moses while rejecting the covenant that came through Jesus Christ. As a result, they were gathered to Israel in 1948, where God is unleashing His judgment on them. Since 1948, and within 1948, Israel has been in 17 wars, click for a list of those wars and scroll close to the bottom of the page. “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.” Ezekiel 22:19-20

If the Jewish culture would have accepted Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, the State of Israel would never have existed. That’s because as Christians we do not have a nation on this earth to call our own, our nation is the New Jerusalem in the new heaven and earth, as is quoted in the verse above, “…but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.” Galatians 4:26

Paul is talking about the curse of living under the law and the freedom of following Christ when he says, through the Holy Spirit, “Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar…” Galatians 4:21-24

“Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.” Galatians 4:28-31

In these verses, Paul is saying that we have inherited the promise given to us through Jesus Christ, which includes the Holy Spirit and eternal life, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…” Ephesians 1:13-14 The law persecutes and puts to death the Spirit,  “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2 The first covenant, under the law, is to be cast out so that we can be free in the Spirit, “In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” Romans 8:13

The background information of the two sons spoken about in Galatians 4:21-22 is outlined below,

Ishmael was born from human effort and desire and not a birth that was of the promise of God. That is why Ishmael is referred to as the birth of a bondservant/slave and Isaac referred to as being of the free.

Abraham was 75 years old when the promise was first made to him about being a great nation Genesis 12:1-4. It was 25 years later when Sarah actually gave birth to Isaac, Abraham being 100 and Sarah 65, Genesis 17:17Genesis 21:1-7. All her life, Sarah was infertile and couldn’t have children, so between those 25 years, Sarah did not want to wait for the promise God made to Abraham to be fulfilled, so she gave her maid/bondservant [Hagar] to Abraham so he could impregnate her, Genesis 16:1-4, from that, the child Ishmael was born. This was common practice in those days that a fertile woman would be impregnated by the man’s seed and the child would be officially known as the child of the infertile wife of the fertile man. God came to Abraham and Sarah again, to reaffirm the promise of them having a child of their own, but Sarah laughed and could not believe it, they were both so old, Genesis 18:9-15. When Abraham was 100, Sarah 90, and Ishmael about 14, Isaac was born to Sarah and Abraham. The promise of was God fulfilled as from that one child [Isaac] Abraham would have many, many, descendants born through Jesus Christ.

Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born according to the promise of God. Ishmael was born by the will and effort of human flesh [born of a bondservant/slave].

Many fall away from their belief in God, set aside their faith in Jesus Christ, and exclude the Holy Spirit from being a part of their life. Like Sarah, they can’t wait a long time to have what they want on this earth. With that said, we already see the fulfillment of the promise of Christ’s return happening right now. Global warming is God’s hand working in this world today, and is the Fourth Plague of Revelation 16:8-9“Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.” The more powerful the United Nations becomes as the one world government, the more intense the effects of global warming becomes.

  • Jesus Christ has come in the flesh 2000 years ago to fulfill the prophecies of the Bible.
  • The Jewish people have been gathered to the State of Israel in 1948, where God unleashes the fury of His judgment on them, as described in Ezekiel 22:19-20Ezekiel 36:22, and Ezekiel 20:34.
  • The global government of the United Nations was established in 1945, immediately after WW2, which brought the government of the beast with it, as described in Daniel 8 and also Revelation 17.
  • The entity that has power over physiology to give people what to think, feel, do, and say is here. This entity enables the image of the beast to speak and live through people in every city around the world. The masses of the global culture are groomed to the mark of the beast by what they say and do. This is described in Revelation 13.
  • Global warming is here and is the Fourth Plagued mentioned in Revelation 16:8-9. The more powerful the United Nations becomes as the one world government the hotter and more intense the heat of global warming becomes. Global warming is instrumental in destroying the power center of the beast [Fifth Plague], rendering the world government and its global culture powerless. At this time, the entity with power over physiology to give people what to think, feel, say, and do will not be functioning. This leads to the Battle of Armageddon in the Sixth Plague, followed by the Day of the Lord and the return of Jesus Christ. Click for a full post on the Seven Plagues.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
