“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Jude 1:20-21
Many people in today’s culture have left the Salvation found in Jesus Christ, they have been led astray by wolves in sheep clothing that use flattery and smooth words to seduce people away from God. As Believers within this anti-Christian culture, we are to use our most holy faith to keep ourselves growing as followers of Jesus. We keep our prayers, wishes, and desires in the presence of the Holy Spirit to keep us from the ambitions of this world. We want to walk in the Spirit not the flesh. We want to remain in the love of God who loved this world so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. In the love of God, we want others to know the mercy, forgiveness, and Salvation of Jesus Christ.
“And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.” Jude 1:22-23
We know what it means to have compassion that makes a difference towards bringing someone to God through Jesus Christ, and this involves the leading of the Holy Spirit. Some people respond to goodwill, love, mercy, and forgiveness that causes them to change their life to the point of being born-again in how they think and in their spirit. However, some people take advantage of the qualities of the Holy Spirit and are not saved by a show of compassion. They need to be saved with fear to pull them out of the destructive fire they got themselves into. For example, they are incorrigible in their drug addiction, stealing from family, friends, and strangers, being a very bad influence on children, indulgent in violence to get their way, etc. This even includes very rebellious teenagers still living at home. These are those who need to be shown what juvenile detention, jail, and prison looks like if there is to be any hope of their Salvation at all. While there are other ways to save people with fear, the hope is that they could be scared straight to come to their senses and to believe God and accept Jesus Christ to live in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The Apostle Paul had to deal with an incorrigible troublemaker that was sexually immoral and having intercourse with his dad’s wife, his own mom. Paul had the man delivered to Satan for the destruction of his flesh in hope that his spirit might be saved. We know that Satan is the ruler of this world, but God brings Salvation through the Spirit. “In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 5:4-5
The Holy Spirit speaks these words to us, “God can guard you so that you don’t fall and so that you can be full of joy as you stand in His glorious presence without fault. Before time began, now, and for eternity, the glory, majesty, power, and authority belong to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Jude 1:24-25 GW
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
