  • The Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit all agree that Jesus is the Christ.
  • Believers in Jesus Christ has the witness of God within them by the Holy Spirit.
  • The Word is written so that we know we have eternal life in Jesus Christ.

The Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit all agree that Jesus is the Christ. “This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.” 1 John 5:6-8

Jesus Christ’s coming by water and blood reveals His humanity and being born through the virgin Mary. This is very important because Jesus is the example that God values our humanness. God does not desire for our humanness to be replaced by the atheistic entity that gives people their thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors. Instead, God wants to live and speak through our humanness, rather than having it replaced by an artificial entity that gives life to the image of the beast to live and speak through people. God created human beings to be the home of the Holy Spirit, not to embody a non-spiritual entity.

In His humanness, Jesus Christ experienced the same weaknesses and temptations that are inherent in our human nature, “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:14-15

The Spirit is truth and witnesses to Jesus Christ being God who came in the form of water and blood. When John the Baptist saw Jesus approaching him, he said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John saw the Holy Spirit witnessing that Jesus is God made flesh by coming upon Him like a dove. “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ …And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” John 1:29-30, 32-34

In Heaven, there are three that are witnesses that Jesus Christ is God who came to us in the flesh of water and blood. The Father is one witness who said, “And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” Luke 9:35 The Word is another witness because the Bible [Old and New Testament] is written to reveal Jesus as the Christ who brings forgiveness of sin, as described in Isaiah 53. The Holy Spirit is the other witness who came upon Jesus in the form of a dove as a witness that He, a water and blood human being, is indeed the Son of God, John 1:29-34.

Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh, and He witnessed that seeing Him is seeing the Father, “…He who has seen Me has seen the Father…” John 14:9  “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going…for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.” John 8:14. 16-18

With the three witnesses in Heaven, there are three on Earth that witness to Christ being the Son of God: the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and these three are in agreement. When Jesus Christ became sin for us on the Cross, it was His water and blood that poured out from His heart. “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.” John 19:34 Our sins were crucified with His flesh on that day and now we can be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is witness to this because the Holy Spirit is given through Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus said, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…” Acts 2:4 Click here for a post on the infilling of the Holy Spirit from Acts 2:1-13. This was prophesied about in Joel 2:28, And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh…”

Believers in Jesus Christ has the witness of God within them by the Holy Spirit. “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:9-12

When we receive recognition from other human beings, the witness of God is greater than human validation. Today’s culture emphasizes flattering the esteem, dignity, and self-worth of each other, thus receiving witness and validation from human beings. Yet, the witness of God is greater, as He testifies of His Son, Jesus Christ, rather than human beings.

Those who believe in Jesus carry within themselves the testimony that He is the Christ, the Son of God. However, those who do not believe in God are essentially calling Him a liar, in contradiction to the verse, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

This is the testimony that God has given us, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

The Word is written so that we know we have eternal life in Jesus Christ. “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:13

What more can be said beyond the clear message of that verse?

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:1
