“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.” Malachi 3:16
The Book of Remembrance is written to record the names of those who are faithful to God through Jesus Christ. It is frequently mentioned throughout the Bible, including as early as the book of Exodus. Below are just a few scriptures that makes reference to the Book of Life.
…everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. Daniel 12:1
…the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. Philippians 4:3
… rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven. Luke 10:20
Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. Exodus 32:33…and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:27
He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:5
You have taken account of my wanderings; put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? Psalm 56:8
All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8
To have our names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, we must revere the Lord, welcome conversation with other believers of Jesus Christ, and meditate on the Lord’s name.
Revere the Lord: The basis of Malachi’s prophecy, as revealed in Malachi 1:6-14, is the disparity in the honor given to human beings and their authority, while neglecting to honor God and His authority. Revering God means to honor Him above all humans. The Holy Spirit asks in John 5:44, “How can you believe when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” To seek God’s honor is to have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Holy Spirit says in John 5:23, “...that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.”
Welcome conversations with other followers of Jesus Christ: Gathering in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ differs significantly from gathering in the name of humanism [which is the fig leaf worn by the atheistic entity that gives people what to think, feel, do, and say]. Gathering in the Lord’s name is an act of honoring, esteeming, and revering the Living God, praising Jesus Christ who atones for sin, and connecting in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. God listens to those whose hearts are turned towards Him. “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them…” Assembling in the name of humanism gives praise and flattery on the esteem, dignity, and self-worth of individuals.
In today’s culture, it’s uncommon to connect with followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. Churches have strayed from the Gospel of Jesus Christ, government officials refrain from joining together to ground policies and laws in Biblical values, the educational community has excluded Bible teachings from the classrooms, and Christianity finds itself unwelcome in the broader community. The scriptures have foretold that this would occur, “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.” Revelation 13:7 The “him” in this verse is the beast of the image and mark of the beast. Jesus Christ stated, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:4-5
Meditate on the Lord’s name: In human terms, the name attributed to God is Jesus Christ, referred to as the Word made flesh: “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen His glory…” John 1:14. Meditating on the name of the Lord means reflecting on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the complete teachings of the Bible, “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.” Psalms 119:15 With the Holy Spirit within us, we find joy in meditating on the Lord’s name day and night, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalms 1:2
Meditating on the Lord’s name shifts our focus from worldly matters to the Kingdom of God, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2 A mind preoccupied with carnal desires and worldly matters leads to demise, whereas a focus on the Spirit brings life and peace, “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 The Holy Spirit in Romans 12:2 states, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night…” Joshua 1:8
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
