“Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the Lord of hosts.” Malachi 3:1
Malachi 1:6-14 describes the reason for Malachi’s prophecy, which is that more honor was given to human beings and human authority than the honor given to God and His authority. Salvation comes in the spirit and soul by the remission of sin through Jesus Christ and is not possible by flattering the esteem, dignity, and respect of human emotions. That is why God sent His Messenger, Jesus Christ, to let us know to repent and believe in the Gospel, “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15
While Jesus Christ is the Messenger of God, John the Baptist was the messenger who prepared the way for the coming of Jesus Christ, “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ” Matthew 3:1-3
The message that God wants us to know is that He wants His Spirit to live within us, as His temple, through Jesus Christ, who gives us the Holy Spirit, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16 This is what is meant when it is written, “And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant…” The Messenger of the covenant, Jesus Christ, comes to God’s temple, our body, so that we can say, “…it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 This is the covenant that the Messenger, Jesus Christ, brings to us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
When Jesus Christ breathed His last breath on the Cross, the atonement for sin was made, and it was finished. At that very moment of His death, the curtain of the temple was torn from top to bottom, which symbolizes our soul being opened to receive the Spirit of God by believing in Jesus Christ. It was torn from the top to allow Heaven to open up and torn all the way to the bottom to allow His Spirit to live in us. “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom…” Matthew 27:50-51
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul
When at the cross my Saviour made me whole,
My sins were washed away,
And my night was turned to day,
Heaven came down and glory filled my soul.
[Church song]
For us who delights in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have a new song to sing, Jesus Christ is coming again! We are the John the Baptists of today’s world who are “‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Make straight the way of the Lord,”’ John 1:23 We have the message of the Messenger of the Covenant [Jesus Christ], which is, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
