“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.” Ezekiel 36:22
As the previous verse indicated, the name of God was dishonored as the Jewish people were derided by other nations for departing from the promised land of Israel [between 70AD and 1948]. What happened to the Jewish people was by the judgment of God for their rebellion against Him. Concerned that His Holy name was being profaned in the process of meting out judgment upon Israel, God resolved to restore the Jewish people to the land of Israel in 1948, establishing the State of Israel. This act was meant to demonstrate to the world that the land of Israel is under His dominion, subject to His will alone, beyond the power of any to give or take away.
While reclaiming the land of Israel for the sake of His Holy name, God also vowed to continue pouring out His wrath upon Israel. This is what He meant by saying, “I am not doing this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for the sake of My holy name, which you have desecrated among the nations where you have gone.” The subsequent verse further clarifies, “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘Because you have all become worthless slag, behold, I will gather you in the heart of Jerusalem. As one gathers silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin into a furnace to blow fire upon it to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.'” Ezekiel 22:19-20This is also said in Ezekiel 20:34.
Had the Jewish people accepted Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, they would not have been scattered and dispersed as a nation, nor would they have been regathered to the land of Israel in 1948, and the Jewish State of Israel would not have come into existence. Rather than identifying as Jewish, they would identify as Christian, and as Christians we do not have a nation on this earth to call our own. Our nation is the New Jerusalem in the new heaven and earth.
In the words of our Lord Jesus to the Jewish people: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house is left to you desolate. And I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'” Matthew 23:37-39.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
