Elijah and John the Baptist were both leaders with a prominent replacement

Part 9...1 Kings 19:19-21

Christ Jesus said, “And if you are willing to receive it, [John the Baptist] is Elijah who is to come.” Matthew 11:14

In Part 8, God spoke to Elijah saying, “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.

In the verses of this post, Elijah found Elisha, “…who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him…”. Elisha was plowing a field with a team of plowmen, and he was in the rear of all the others. There were twelve plowmen with their own plow and their own oxen pulling the plow. Like Elijah, the successor of John the Baptist [Jesus Christ] was plowing with twelve other plowmen [his disciples], as quoted, “Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples.” John 4:1-2

Elijah went by Elisha and threw his mantle/shawl on him, which was how Elijah showed that he chose Elisha as his successor. Like Elijah, when John the Baptist heard about the multitudes that the twelve disciples of Jesus were baptizing, he threw his mantel/shawl over Jesus as his successor, as quoted, “And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified—behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!” John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.John 3:26-29

Elisha immediately left his livelihood [oxen and plow] to follow Elijah, and Elisha only wanted to kiss his father and mother before following him day-to-day. Elijah obliged. During the days of Elijah and John the Baptist, it was important to honor father and mother in obedience to the Ten Commandments. Jesus Christ changed that by clarifying what the family of God is, saying, “But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:48-50 In honoring the Ten Commandments, like Elijah, John the Baptist desired that natural relationships between children and parents be honored, as quoted, “And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers…” Malachi 4:6

“So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”

So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.”
