  • Who is able to stand in the presence of the Holy God?
  • Holy people of God have the presence of God within our house.
  • The presence of God remains in the house of the priests for a long time.
  • God requires repentance and putting away of this world’s false god.

Who is able to stand in the presence of the Holy God?
“And the men of Beth Shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God? And to whom shall it go up from us?” So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have brought back the ark of the Lord; come down and take it up with you.” 1 Samuel 20:21

The Ark of God is part of the “scarlet cord” representative of God’s presence among us. His presence is one of Holiness that has no relationship with sin, making it impossible for sin-plagued people to come into direct contact with the presence of the Living God. The question asked by the men of Beth Shemesh is, “Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God?

Jesus Christ is the sinless Son of God and is the only one who is able to stand in the presence of the Holiness of God. Jesus Christ, by His sacrifice on the Cross to atone for sin, has made it possible for us to enter into the presence of God, as we draw near to Him, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” Hebrews 10:19-22

Holy people of God have the presence of God within our house.
“Then the men of Kirjath Jearim came and took the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.” 1 Samuel 7:1

The men of Kirjath Jearim followed the word of God and every instruction on the how to handle the Ark of God. They came to pick up the Ark of the Covenant. Abinadab was the father of Eleazar and Eleazar was sanctified to keep charge of the Ark of God. They were the priests who remained faithful to the will of God.

Today, everyone who believes in Jesus Christ are sanctified so that we can experience the presence of God as the temple of the Holy Spirit, “…we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10 Like Abinadab and Eleazar, we are the consecrated priests of God, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…” 1 Peter 2:9

“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully.” Psalms 24:3-4

The presence of God remains in the house of the priests for a long time.
“So it was that the ark remained in Kirjath Jearim a long time; it was there twenty years. And all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.” 1 Samuel 7:2

The Ark of God remained in the house of Abinadab, under the charge of Eleazar, for twenty years. This was a time that all of Israel desired diligently to live faithfully by the word of God.

What happened to the Ark of the Covenant after those twenty years? David, after he was crowned king, sent to have it brought to him, as quoted, “So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor in Egypt to as far as the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath Jearim. And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, to Kirjath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who dwells between the cherubim, where His name is proclaimed. So they carried the ark of God on a new cart…” 1 Chronicles 13:5-7

Today, the presence of God remains in us for “20 years” until the time that Jesus Christ returns to bring us home to be eternally with Him. The Holy Spirit within us is our guarantee of the inheritance of eternal life in the New Jerusalem, in the new heaven and earth, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…” Ephesians 1:13-14

God requires repentance and putting away of this world’s false god.
“Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you return to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the children of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.” 1 Samuel 7:3-4

The Philistines are those who served the false god, Dagon, and tried to mix the Ark of God with the chest of golden tumors and golden rats. This is representative of the world government and its global culture that has filled the human body, created to be the house of the Holy Spirit, with its false god. They want to mix the presence of God with the entity that gives people what to think, feel, do, and say to seduce today’s culture to serve it as if it is God, “…who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:4 Click here for a post on the “man of sin”.

Ashtoreth was a false goddess that promoted the love for sensual fertility, love, prosperity, and war. Those attributes include the most basic of carnal desires and are the easiest of avenues to enflame fleshly desires against the Spirit. That is why the entity with power over physiology enflames those basic desires within us. The intent is to give rise to sensual desires and material wants to seduce attitudes against the presence of God, to detest the idea of a need for the forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ, and to oppress the appearing of the Holy Spirit. Once the human spirit and conscience are hardened against Jesus Christ, then the false god of this world is able to give people what to think, feel, say, and do. This entity enables the image of the beast to speak and live through people as they are groomed to the mark of the beast by what they say and do.

The word of God tells us to turn away from the false god of this world and to turn away from the enticements of carnal and sensual desires. When we return to the Lord with all of our hearts, put away the foreign gods, and prepare our hearts by accepting Jesus Christ, we will have Salvation, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 May we be among those who serve the Lord only through His Son Jesus Christ in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
, 3:11
