“As for your nativity, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed in water to cleanse you; you were not rubbed with salt nor wrapped in swaddling cloths.” Ezekiel 16:4

When the birth of the Israelites happened, they were not yet cut from the navel cord of the sinful world around them. That is a time when the newborn needs to be washed, have salt rubbed on them to further the cleansing, and to be wrapped in warm clothing. The birth of the Israelites was so new that they had not yet been cleansed.

The birth of the Israelites came when the last son of Jacob’s twelve sons was born, his youngest son was born in Genesis 35:16-20. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28 and his twelve sons became known as the twelve sons of Israel. The tribes of Israel are named after the twelve sons, thus came the birth of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

Moses and Aaron were both born from the tribe of Levi, so the period of time from the birth of the twelve Tribes of Israel, to shortly after the birth of Moses in Exodus 2:1-10 the Israelites were not washed, not rubbed in salt, nor wrapped in swaddling clothing. They had not yet received the word of God through Moses. The Ten Commandments separated the Israelites from all the other people around them who did not know God.

The Israelites would be cut from the navel cord of this world with the arrival of Moses, who led them out of Egypt (Beginning in Exodus 7) and brought them the Ten Commandments from the hand of God. The Ten Commandments were given in Exodus 20. By believing God and following His word, the Israelites were cleansed, rubbed with salt, and wrapped in swaddling clothes. They were cleansed by following the commandments of God, they were preserved by the word of God in a world that was hostile to them, and they were wrapped in the clothing of God’s righteousness.

God cares for the life of the infant even while the baby is still feeding from the lifeline/umbilical cord of the mother.

As followers of Jesus Christ, even while we were still sinners, God cared for us. This is a time before we had been separated from the ways of the world, before being washed in the blood of the Lamb, before living as the salt of the earth, and before living in the Holy Spirit. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
