  • The Apostle Peter quotes Joel 2:28-32 and excludes the Jewish people from that quote.
  • The Holy Spirit is available to whoever lives for Jesus Christ.
  • The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is followed by the Day of the Lord.
  • The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of Salvation.

The Apostle Peter quotes Joel 2:28-32 and excludes the Jewish people from that quote. The original text quotes a passage from Joel to explain what happened on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:17-21, when the Holy Spirit was poured out. The passage from Acts is quoted in full at the end of this post. However, there is one significant difference: the Apostle Peter omitted an entire verse from Joel when he quoted it. He did not include the verse that says, “For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.” Joel 32b. The Apostle Peter knew that only Jesus Christ could provide deliverance for the Jewish people, and that without Jesus, the Holy Spirit would not be given. Therefore, he stopped after the verse that says in Joel 32a, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

The following text is a quotation of the Apostle Peter’s words in Acts 4:10-12. He clearly states that the Jewish people cannot be saved without Jesus Christ, and therefore they do not have the Holy Spirit., “…let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:10-12

The Holy Spirit is available to whoever lives for Jesus Christ. “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” Joel 2:28-29

When Joel conveys the message of the Holy Spirit, “…it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh…” He means the time following Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross to redeem humanity from sin. By atoning for sin, our Lord Jesus opened the way for all people to commune with the Spirit of God in their human spirit. He tore down the veil of the soul and made us the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks were split. And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.” Matthew 27:50-53

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you…If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:9, 13 This verse tells us that we can do three things to receive the Holy Spirit: ask Jesus Christ to enter our lives, seek God through Jesus Christ, and knock on the door that leads to the presence of the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus came to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who believes in him.

The Holy Spirit enables people of all ages and genders to prophesy when He dwells in their human spirit. “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” Revelation 19:10 Proclaiming the message of Christ is the spirit of prophecy. We can gauge where the world is in relation to prophecy by looking at how Jesus Christ is received in the world. The main role of the Holy Spirit is to bear witness to Jesus.

There is no age limit for receiving the Holy Spirit, “…your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” The Spirit dwells in the spirit and soul of both the old and the young. The old may face physical limitations, but their spirit dreams dreams inspired by the Holy Spirit about God and Jesus Christ. The young have more physical abilities, and they see visions in the Spirit of God’s will for them and the world through Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit is accessible to everyone, regardless of their social status or background, “And also on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” No matter what our position or gender is in life, the Holy Spirit is given to anyone who accepts Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin. Anyone who follows Jesus Christ will receive the Holy Spirit through the forgiveness of sin, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are descendants of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:26-29

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is followed by the Day of the Lord. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.” Joel 2;30-31

The text describes the cosmic events that will affect this planet, such as the collapse of the sky and the earth, the eruption of flames and smoke, and the dimming of the sun and the moon.

During these turbulent times and the ones to come, the Holy Spirit is available for anyone who wants to receive Him. The Holy Spirit comforts us and assures us of eternal life in the new heaven and earth. “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you the Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;” John 14:16 “…in whom also you, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also when you believed you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

Jesus Christ’s arrival was to illuminate and ready us for God’s Kingdom and to alert us of the impending doom on this planet. He sought to restore our relationship with God by forgiving our sins in view of the Day of the Lord, “—the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death, a light has dawned on them.” From that time on, Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near.” Matthew 4:15-17

Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed to His Father for us to stay in this “world gone mad” and to be protected from the evil one through the sanctification of our spirit and soul. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.” John 17:15-19

Satan is the evil one, and he influences this world through the thing that gives people their feelings, thoughts, words and actions. It allows the image of the beast to animate to live and speak through people in every city around the world. It is the power center of the global government and its global culture. It replaces the human conscience by dictating people’s feelings and thoughts as psychopathic traits spread globally. People worldwide conform to the anti-Christian global culture as they are groomed to the mark of the beast by their words and actions.

The global culture has become self-centered as they feel empowered to exert their own will and disregard God’s authority. They do not feel guilt nor remorse and abhor the need for Jesus Christ who can forgive their sins. They treat the Holy Spirit as an enemy, a tool, a rival, or a nuisance. They lack empathy for others, as the world becomes more lawless, antisocial, and troubled. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and our assurance of eternal life in the new heaven and earth.

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of Salvation. “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be Salvation, as the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.” Joel 2:32

Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, who gives us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our assurance of salvation. “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14

When the Apostle Peter quoted Joel 2:28-32 in Acts 2:17-21 to explain the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, he left out the second part of Joel 2:32. He only quoted the first part of Joel 2:32, which says, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” The Apostle Peter understood that the interpretation of Mount Zion and Jerusalem did not exclusively belong to the Jewish people, especially in matters of Salvation and the Holy Spirit. He might have avoided quoting the rest of verse 32 to prevent the Jews from thinking that they had a monopoly on the Holy Spirit.

Verse 32’s second part is omitted by the Apostle Peter because Mount Zion symbolizes eternal life in Heaven. The remnant are the faithful few who keep the testimony of Jesus Christ. Jewish people can only belong to the remnant if they join the Christian family. God calls us to the Cross of Jesus Christ to forgive our sins and restore our relationship with Him. Jesus is God’s calling card, and His followers respond to the call.

The verses below are from Acts 2:17-21……………………………………………………………………..
In the verses below, from Acts 2:17-21, it is seen how the Apostle Peter omits the very last verse in Joel 2:32b. that says, “For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be Salvation, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls.” The Apostle Peter stops at the verse in Joel 32a. which says, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

“But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
