“So David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?” 2 Samuel 1:5
The spiritually wicked Saul is symbolic of Israel who has disobeyed God by rejecting and killing Jesus Christ. Even then, Israel is like a wayward and unruly child to God who is still loved, like the love of a parent towards an unmanageable child. Jonathan loved David and is symbolic of Christianity who loves Jesus with heart and soul. When David asked the young defendant how he knew Jonathan and David were dead, it was a question that rested on a very personal nerve. It would be the most important question the young defendant had ever faced in the entirety of his young life. On the day of judgment, Jesus Christ will want an answer to that question, “How do you know Israel and Christianity are dead?”
In the previous verse, the young defendant said that he was running to escape from the spiritually wicked camp of Saul. However, he was running from the battle against the Philistines to save his own life. As followers of Jesus Christ, we don’t want to find ourselves sitting on the defendant’s seat after running from the spiritual battle. We would have to explain why we turned from God, why we ran from the Gospel of Christ, and why we shut out the Holy Spirit. It would mean we have run from Christianity and ran from our support of Israel. In essence, running from the spiritual battle would make it very difficult to answer the question from Jesus Christ, “How do you know Christianity and Israel are dead? ” How could anyone respond with an answer from the defendant’s seat that Christianity and Israel are dead to us within our soul?
On the day of judgment, the heart of the matter is about the death of Jesus Christ, the death of Israel, and the death of Christianity. It’s important that we keep our soul alive to Jesus Christ and to treat Israel and Christianity honorably. To put that from another perspective, those who live for the thing forming their thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors are dead within their soul to Jesus Christ, Israel and Christianity. They know without a doubt that Christianity and Israel are dead, and that does not make a good defense on the day of judgment. They allow the image of the beast to live and speak through them by the thing forming their thoughts and feelings. Jesus Christ will know that they come from the camp of the anti-Christian world who are groomed to the mark of the beast.
The judgment against the State of Israel comes through the hands of those living for the global government of the beast, so the enemies of Israel are the same enemies of God. In the next verses, the answer of the lying defendant was not flattering at all to David but was an errant confession of wickedness.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
