“Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” 1 Samuel 18:1 After defeating the giant, David answered Saul and made it known he was the son of Jesse. That would be similar to Jesus Christ declaring that He is the Son of God who brings victory over sin, death, and the giant government of the beast. After that, David and Jonathan (Saul’s oldest son) were knit together as one. As followers of Jesus Christ, we accept Jesus as the Son of God and accept His victory over sin and death. Our soul is knit together with the Spirit of Christ.
Having a soul knitted with love for God and others is what Jesus expects of us, “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
“Saul took him that day, and would not let him go home to his father’s house anymore.” 1 Samuel 18:2 David had just defeated the giant, Goliath, and Saul decided to keep David with him after that. Saul did not have a commitment to God, and was troubled by a distressed spirit, so his purpose for wanting to keep David was for selfish reasons. It’s like people who want to use Jesus Christ as a tool for their personal gain but has no love for God and no desire for the remission of sin. They are not knitted by the soul with the Spirit of Christ.
Those who govern by the mark of the beast wants to keep Jesus Christ in their possession for less than honorable purposes. For example, the churches of today do not embrace the Gospel of Christ and are dominated by those who live for the mark of the beast. They are keeping the churches with them but do not love God, Jesus, nor the Holy Spirit. They are not knitted together with the Spirit of Christ by the covenant made at the Cross for the remission of sin.
“Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.” 1 Samuel 18:3 Unlike the relationship between Saul and David, Jonathan and David truly loved each other and the two made a covenant. That is like the covenant made with Jeus Christ for the remission of sin and eternal life for whoever believes in Him. God loves us and we love His Son Jesus Christ, and this is the covenant made, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 “And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt.” 1 Samuel 18:4 We surrender our all to Jesus Christ, and no longer rely on worldly prestige and earthly power.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
