David is Chosen as the King of Israel: Jesus Christ is the Chosen One of God.

  • God rejects worldly government and provides His King to rule over His people.
  • God’s Kingdom is not of this world but comes through Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus Christ comes peaceably as the Lamb of God.
  • The chosen One is of the Spirit of God, not worldly power.
  • The chosen One of God is a Shepherd not a soldier.
  • The chosen One is anointed with the Spirit of God.

God rejects worldly government and provides His King to rule over His people. “Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.” 1 Samuel 16:1

God has rejected Saul as king, but he is still sitting on the throne as king and will do so until his death. This is like the governing authorities of this present world being rejected by God, but they will rule until the day Jesus Christ comes back. God rejects government leaders because they close-out God, reject the need for Jesus Christ, and are a grievance to the Holy Spirit.

Today, those who rule over this world are rejected by God because they exist through the global government of the beast. They derive their power and authority from the thing which is able to form thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and words. It denies God, discards Jesus Christ, and tramples on the Holy Spirit. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through the masses of people in every city around the world and by what they say and do they are conformed to their place in life. They are conformed to their mark in life as they are groomed to the mark of the beast. That is the “democratic” global culture.

God has a replacement for this world’s government and His name is Jesus Christ. Like Samuel who filled his horn with oil to anoint God’s chosen king, the Lord Jesus has been anointed with the Holy Spirit as He carried out His ministry on this earth. Oil represents the Holy Spirit and is used for anointing. By the atonement Jesus made for sin on the Cross, He defeated sin and death to give us eternal life. Jesus Christ is coming back as the anointed King of kings and Lord of lords.

With the anointing oil in his horn, Samuel is sent to Jesse to select one of his sons as the new king and to anoint him as king of Israel. David is the son of Jesse who is chosen to be the new king. Jesus Christ is of the family tree of David, born from the lineage of king David. He is the coming King who defeats the global government of the beast, as prophesied here, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper,
and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.” Jeremiah 23:5
David is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus as quoted here, “…and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah…” Matthew 1:6

God’s Kingdom is not of this world but comes through Jesus Christ. “And Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ ” 1 Samuel 16:2

Saul was a man who God rejected, and the last thing Saul would tolerate is someone being anointed king according to the will of God. However, Saul would have no problem with sacrifices being made to the Lord, as long as it didn’t involve recognizing a king other than himself. Today, the thing which forms what people think, feel, do, and say has no problem with a superficial religion, as long as Jesus Christ is not acknowledged as Lord and Savior. That is where the churches are today, they have tossed aside the Gospel of Christ to please the “democratic” society of the beast.

As followers of the Lord Jesus, we acknowledge Him as the anointed Son of God and have made Him the King of our soul. We do not recognize the thing which intrudes on our thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors as the lord of our inner being. We have no concern about toppling the governing authority of this world, we are here only to offer ourselves to Jesus, the King of our soul.

“Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.” 1 Samuel 16:3 Jesse is the father of David, and David is whom God had named to be anointed the king over Israel. That is symbolic of Jesus Christ being the one whom God has named and anointed to be the King of our soul. Jesus plainly says that His Kingdom is not of this world, “Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” John 18:36

Jesus Christ comes peaceably as the Lamb of God. “So Samuel did what the Lord said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, “Do you come peaceably?” 1 Samuel 16:4

Jesus Christ was born in the little town of Bethlehem, which brought much trembling and fear to the worldly kings. So much fear that one king slaughtered infants in an attempt to murder the infant Jesus, “Then Herod…sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under,” Matthew 2:16 Jesus Christ came peaceably and is no military threat whatsoever to the rulers of this world. Even so, those who live and govern by the thing which forms thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and words the want Jesus Christ eliminated from this world.

“And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.” 1 Samuel 16:5 As followers of Jesus Christ, we live by the Gospel of peace as we sacrifice ourselves to God through Jesus Christ. We set ourselves apart from the affairs of this earth to be sanctified from the ways of the world. That is our consecration and sanctification, which keeps us far from rebel violence against world powers. In our consecration, we are invited to fellowship with the Spirit of God within the sanctuary of our soul.

The chosen One is of the Spirit of God, not worldly power. “So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him!” 1 Samuel 16:6 Samuel thought he had found the chosen king because of physical attributes, but God’s King, Jesus, doesn’t come with physical might, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6

No flesh should be glorified in the presence of God, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 God rejects flesh and blood attributes and looks into our soul, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

“So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.”  Jesus Christ is not found if someone is looking for Him within the attributes of flesh and blood.

The thing that has power over physiology is able to build up fleshy attributes beyond human comprehension. It enables amazing physical feats, gives uncanny knowledge, provides heightened intuition, gives extraordinary skills, gives astonishing appearances of youth and health, etc. But none of those fleshly attributes allow room for God and Jesus Christ into the heart. Those fleshy endowments are from the thing which forms feelings, thoughts, words, and behaviors, which also blasphemes the Holy Spirit and discards Jesus Christ. Those are the people the leaders of today’s society choose, but God chooses people who live by the Spirit of Christ.

The chosen One of God is a Shepherd not a soldier. “And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” 1 Samuel 16:11

The youngest, and least likely to be king by physical standards, would be the king of Israel. He was a sheepherder named David, no older than the age of 15 and even before he defeated the giant Goliath. He defeated Goliath at about the age of 15. Likewise, Jesus Christ was the youngest and last to come of all the Prophets of God and the last to come of all the kings of Israel. Instead of an army He had twelve Apostles, instead of riding on a stallion He rode on a donkey, and instead of associating with the powerful and influential He is the Good Shepherd of the sheep.

While David was anointed king of Israel, he would not sit on the throne until the death of Saul, 15 years later. David was crowned the king of Israel at the age of thirty, as quoted, “David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.” 2 Samuel 5:4 Jesus Christ also started His public ministry at the age thirty, and He will be known as the King of kings and Lord of lords when He comes back in victory over this present world’s system.

The chosen One is anointed with the Spirit of God. “So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” 1 Samuel 16:12

“Ruddy” is a word referring to having a healthy red color in the face, which David had along with being good-looking with bright eyes. That symbolizes the spiritual beauty of Jesus Christ. David, nor Jesus, had the macho soldier look that cried out, “A valiant king of Israel!”

I can envision Jesus Christ being born of the Spirit of God and being very appealing, charismatic, and attractive in His Spirit, but not so much in His physical appearance. The prophecy of Isaiah suggests that Jesus was not physically attractive, “He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.” Isaiah 53:2b.

Jesus was the Lamb of God on whom the Spirit of God rested like a dove, and He is the One whom it is said of, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” He is the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God who takes away the sin of the whosoever. There was nothing about Him which cried out “A valiant king of Israel!”

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.” 1 Samuel 16:13 David and Jesus Christ both had brothers in which David and Jesus were anointed for all their brothers to see.

David’s brothers had a hard time accepting David’s claim to be able to defeat Goliath, “Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? 1 Samuel 17:28 Also, Jesus had four brothers and a couple sisters, and they had a hard time accepting His anointing as the Son of God, “His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” For even His brothers did not believe in Him.” John 7:3-5

The anointing oil which Samuel had represents the Holy Spirit, and from a teenager the Spirit of the Lord was upon David. The Holy Spirit is not the spirit of an earthly warrior but the Spirit of a dove, which came upon Jesus, “And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22 The anointing of Jesus was so that He would defeat sin, death, and the global government of the beast and be crowned King of kings. Which is symbolized by David’s anointing which enabled him to conquer the giant Goliath and eventually be crowned the king of Israel.

The city of Ramah is also mentioned in the New Testament when infants were slaughtered by king Herod in the process of seeking to kill the baby Jesus Christ, “A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.” Matthew 2:18 Which is in the Old Testament as part of the “scarlet cord” pointing to Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah, “Thus says the Lord: “A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
