Ezekiel’s wife is taken away suddenly, and he is told not to mourn.
Ezekiel’s desire of his eyes is suddenly taken away, with he is told to not mourn. “Also the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke; yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down.” Ezekiel 24:15
God reveals to Ezekiel that his wife will be taken from him suddenly, but he is not to mourn or cry. In later verses, we are shown how this is a message to the Israelites of their lack of remorse in their rebellion against God. Also, 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ died on the Cross to atone for sin as the Jewish Messiah, but the people of the Jewish culture do not mourn, cry, or shed a tear at His crucifixion. There is no remorse leading them to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ is not with them as they reject His Gospel, the entire New Testament, and only live by the Old Testament.
We live in a world today that is hostile to genuine human emotions, including mourning, crying, and tears. The masses of the global culture depends on the entity with power over physiology to give them emotions to express the will of the entity giving them what to feel. Human emotions and conscience are hazed, harassed, and unwanted in today’s society.
Genuine emotions and conscience solicit human compassion, empathy, and sympathy, even to the point of remorse to come to Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Instead, a wall is built against Jesus Christ by hardening emotions and conscience. The intent is to conform people to allow the image of the beast to live and speak through them by the entity giving them what to feel, do, say, and think. They are groomed to the mark of the beast by what they are given to say and do.
When I show any genuine human emotions and conscience, there is a wide variety of opposition, whether at a funeral, wedding, or in day-to-day responses towards others. I usually get hard slaps on the back, or a voice in the background mocks the emotions. There is mockery, scrutiny, laughter, and other actions that does not allow me to mourn, cry, or show other human emotions and conscience. People who oppose human emotions and conscience also detest the love of God shown to humanity, they scoff at the remorse leading to the forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ, and oppress the presence of the Holy Spirit.
God gives us a new heart through Jesus Christ, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 Jesus Christ is the way to be born again in the Spirit, or we cannot see the Kingdom of God.
Ezekiel is to show no outward signs of mourning. “Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.” Ezekiel 24:17
God says to Ezekiel to mourn in silence, not to show any outward appearance of grief for the dead. Ezekiel would leave his turban on his head, his sandals on his feet, not cover his lips with mourning garb, nor to eat food made for funeral purposes. This was totally opposite of the Israelite’s customs for mourning, which required removing day-to-day clothing and putting on garb to show that they were mourning. This would catch the attention of the Israelites who would ask him why he was not following the required dress code and policies for mourning, verse 19.
What Ezekiel is doing is a message to show the attitude and emotional callousness of the Jewish culture of today. They have absolutely no remorse at all after the death of Jesus Christ who died on the Cross to atone for their sin. Today, they live without Him in their life as He is dead in their culture. The Jewish people continue to “dress” in the customs of the Jewish way of life. Their head is filled with Old Testament scripture without any thought of the “scarlet cord” pointing to Jesus Christ as their Messiah. Their feet are covered with shoes that go in the direction of the Old Testament without any motivation to put on the shoes that walk in the Spirit of Christ. Their lips speak the words of the Old Testament but confession that Jesus Christ is Lord is far from them. They do not eat the Bread of the Man of Sorrows [Isaiah 53:3], which is the Bread of Life of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit says to us, “Sigh in silence.” The Water of Life lives within us, as Jesus Christ said, “…the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 Jesus has the bread that no one knows of because it is hidden in the spirit and soul, “But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” John 4:32 Jesus gives us to eat of the hidden bread of the soul, “To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat…” Revelation 2:17
Instead of making an outward show of our inner life, we live by an inward devotion to God through Jesus Christ. The thoughts of our heart are clothed with the Holy Spirit even though the expression of those thoughts is oppressed. We sigh in silence. We wear the shoes of the Gospel of peace so that wherever we go we bring the Spirit of Christ’s peace, even though the expression of peace is oppressed. We sigh in silence. We do not speak the words of spiritual darkness, death, and destruction but remain in silence. We do not feed on the sorrows and miseries fed to us every day in this life, but we feed on the hidden manna. We feed on the word of God within our thoughts and feelings even though expressing ourselves outwardly is like a seed trying to blossom among the thorns. We sigh in silence. Within the hidden place of our soul lives light, life, and Salvation.
Today’s culture has no remorse whatsoever about the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross who atoned for sin. They come against the love of God, are emotionally hardened to the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, and they want no part of bonding with the presence of the Holy Spirit. The global culture bombards any outward show of human emotions and conscience. People are painfully conditioned not to show human sentiments. They want us to live by the atheistic non-spiritual entity that gives people emotional responses to mirror what it wants people to see.
Ezekiel’s wife died in the evening after Ezekiel spoke to the congregation in the morning. “So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded.” Ezekiel 24:18
Ezekiel brought the word of God to the Israelites in the morning, before his wife died. A description of the Israelite congregation he spoke to is given in Ezekiel 33:30-33. That evening his wife died, and Ezekiel did as God led him to do, which is to show no outward signs of mourning. He was told to “Sigh in silence.” What God led Ezekiel to do, which was contrary to the customs of the Israelites on the right way to mourn, was to mirror the response of the Israelites as their heritage with God was destroyed and drowned in death. They showed no remorse, shame, guilt, or repentance of any type, not a tear was shed.
God sent Jesus Christ 2000 years ago to bring the Good News of the Kingdom of God. That was the morning of a new relationship with God as the Holy Spirit would be given to all who believe in Christ Jesus. The Gospel of Christ is the Good News which is this, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 Unfortunately, the Jewish people and all who reject Jesus has brought the evening of the death of the Gospel of Christ. They are not remorseful, ashamed, not even a feeling of guilt that would lead them to repentance. When the Jewish people rejected the word of God, which was brought through Jesus Christ, their heritage as the people of God died. The Jewish people shed no tears at all as they discard the entire New Testament, the Gospel of Christ, and live only by the Old Testament.
“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Acts 2:36
Jesus the Christ brought the word of God to this world and His Gospel is spread across the globe. That was the morning of the Good News of Salvation. The Gospel of Christ spread freely up to the time of the formation of the United Nations immediately after WW2 in 1945, which brought the government of the beast with it, as described in Daniel 8. Since that time, evening has come and there has been a great falling away from Christ Jesus, as described in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4.
The culture of today’s world has died to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. They serve the atheistic entity that gives them what to think, feel, do, and say, which replaces the spirit and conscience. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is no longer heard in the churches. The government lawmakers no longer include the values of the Bible in policies and laws. The educational system no longer teaches the Bible in the classrooms, and Christianity is not welcomed in any sector of society. This world doesn’t even shed a tear of remorse and shame. God tells the followers of Jesus Christ to “Sigh in silence” without making on open showing of mourning and grief.
We can assess that the morning of our life is when we decided to believe God and live for Jesus Christ in the presence of the Holy Spirit. The diagnosis is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is in the evening hours of death in this world. We plan to not spend our days mourning and crying for everyone to see. We implement that plan by keeping the word of God and the Spirit of Christ alive within us by living on the hidden Bread of Life within our heart, mind, and soul. We know that plan is successful when we sigh in silence at the atheism that dominates the culture of today’s world.
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died; and the next morning I did as I was commanded.” Ezekiel 24:18
Israelites experience the passing of their stronghold as they unremorsefully pine away in their sin.
Israelites want to know why Ezekiel does not mourn as required by Jewish customs. “And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things signify to us, that you behave so?” Ezekiel 24:19
All through the book of Ezekiel, he uses parables, “show-and tell,” and images of all sorts to speak to the Israelites. Ezekiel had to use other forms of communication because the Israelites closed themselves off to the word of God. Jesus Christ used parables for that reason, “Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” Matthew 13:13
After several previous “show-and-tells”, the Israelites were accustomed to Ezekiel’s skits, and they were not amused. They were like the Pharisees who heard the parables of Jesus, “Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking of them…they sought to lay hands on Him…” Matthew 21:45 In a contemptuous attitude, the Israelites asked Ezekiel, “What are you doing now? What do these things mean?”
The Israelites knew the behavior of Ezekiel was out of character because he deviated from Jewish customs about the proper clothes to wear while mourning for his wife. God directed Ezekiel’s uncustomary behavior. The Israelites knew Ezekiel’s wife had died, but instead of wearing clothing of grief, Ezekiel continued to wear his day-to-day clothing and showed no sign of tears, sadness, or mourning at all, but inwardly he was sighing in silence. God said to him, “Sigh in silence.”
The world we live in today wants to capitalize on every occasion to solicit the followers of Jesus Christ to mourn, show sadness, to speak words of despair, and to lower our spirit. They want Christians to immerse themselves in death not life, in destruction not Salvation, and in darkness not light. Jesus Christ lifts us up above the darkness, sadness, and grief of this world to give us a focus on eternal life, Salvation, and His Light. As we transcend outward shows of depression, grief, and mourning, those of this world approach us as if something is wrong with us. They ask in a contemptuous tone, “Why do you behave so, explain yourself?” We sigh in silence.
Jesus Christ speaks these words to us, “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:16-18 God says to us, “Sigh in silence.”
As followers of our Lord Jeus Christ, the Man of Sorrows, we can assess that there is mourning within us even though we show hope, compassion, love, and the Spirit of life outwardly. The diagnosis is that those of this atheistic world will criticize our lack of outer evidence of grief, sorrow, and mourning in the presence of death and catastrophe. We plan to live by the inner hope given to us through Jesus Christ and not to dwell on the darkness, death, and destruction of this world. We implement that plan by offering hope, eternal life, and Salvation through Jesus the Christ. We know the plan is successful when through the criticism of not mourning we offer life instead of death, light instead darkness, and Salvation instead of destruction. As Jesus said, “For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” Luke 9:56
Israelites are told that the thing their soul pities, the strength of their pride, will be profaned. “Then I answered them, “The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Speak to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes that which your soul pities; and your sons and daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.” Ezekiel 24:20-21.
The Israelites were wondering why Ezekiel wanted them to see that he was not wearing the customary mourning clothing, had no outward appearance of mourning, and had no tears for the passing of his wife. So Ezekiel spoke the word of the Lord to them, that they would suffer the loss of something loved by the Israelite culture, the loss of something engrained within the soul of the Jewish people. The loss was the destruction of Jerusalem, the temple, and the death of their sons and daughters. As we read in the next verse, the Israelites didn’t shed a tear, felt no guilt, no shame, no mourning, no repentance.
The Israelites were conquered by king Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. After experiencing rebellion from the Israelites, Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem, the temple/sanctuary, and slaughtered the sons and daughters. Jerusalem, the sanctuary, and the people of their culture were the pride of the Jewish strength and was the desire of their eyes, which they loved in their soul. One would think the Israelites would have been heartbroken and in mourning over the loss of their children and the temple being defiled, but they never mourned, felt no sorrow, and never shed a tear.
The Jewish people of today are living with the defilement of their sanctuary. That’s because the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been discarded from their preaching and teaching, which is the entire New Testament. They only live by the Old Testament. The sons and daughters of the Jewish people are falling by the “sword”, the sword that severs them from Jesus Christ. They are dying to the will of God and dying to the Holy Spirit. The Jewish culture does not mourn, cry, or feel any repentance over the profanity of their sanctuary nor for the deaths of their children.
Only through Christ Jesus can we live in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and our body is the sanctuary of the Spirit. God has set in motion that Jesus Christ brings Holiness to the sanctuary, and without Him the sanctuary is profaned with unbelief. God has made it that the sanctuary is profaned of those who feels no need for the forgiveness of sin through Jesus.
God has created our body to be the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit by believing in Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. When that is not happening, God allows His sanctuary to be profaned, which is part of the judgment He brings against atheism. Today’s culture is living in the profanity of their sanctuary as they welcome the atheistic entity that gives them what to think, feel, do, and say. They do not shed a tear, no mourning, no remorse, no repentance for those dying to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. The word of God says, “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
We can assess that God has made us His sanctuary by the Holy Spirit given to us by the forgiveness of sin through Jesus the Christ. The diagnosis is that the sanctuary is profaned by unbelief and prevents being born again as children of Christ Jesus. We plan to live with the pride and strength of believing in Jesus Christ, “But “he who glories, let him glory in the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 10:17 We implement that plan by boasting in our weaknesses and His strength, “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 We know the plan is successful when Jesus Christ increases and we decrease, “He must increase, but I must decrease. He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth.” John 3:30-31
Israelites do not mourn the passing of their stronghold as they pine away in their sin. “And you shall do as I have done; you shall not cover your lips nor eat man’s bread of sorrow. Your turbans shall be on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you shall neither mourn nor weep, but you shall pine away in your iniquities and mourn with one another. Thus Ezekiel is a sign to you; according to all that he has done you shall do; and when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord God.’” Ezekiel 24:22-24
Ezekiel is now revealing to the Israelites why he did not follow the customs of mourning and did not shed a tear when his wife died. This was the message that God gave Ezekiel to the Israelites: That even though the sanctuary in Jerusalem would be destroyed, and their sons and daughters killed, and Jerusalem itself desolated, the captive Israelites would not cry over it. They would not mourn, have sorrow, feel shame, have any guilt, or show repentance of any type for the loss of the heritage they had with God. The heart of the Israelites was hardened against the Holy things of God, His people, and the entire Holy City. What they would mourn over was their own pining away in the consequences of turning away from God. They had worldly sorrow for themselves but no sorrow that led them to repentance, “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10
2000 years ago, the Jewish people rejected Jesus the Christ and to this day they feel no remorse, sorrow, or mourning for His crucifixion and absence in their culture. Even though they don’t mourn in a way that reconciles them to God through Christ Jesus, they are doing plenty of mourning for themselves as seen coming from the State of Israel. Every day the governing officials of Israel mourn for their own wasting away in dealing with the constant wars they are confronted with. Israel has been in 17 wars since 1948, and even a war in 1948, Click for a list of those wars and scroll close to the bottom of the page.
The Israeli citizens themselves are also doing a lot of mourning for themselves as they constantly engage in riots and protests against their own government. They demand that the government of Israel conform to the will of the members of the United Nations. While they do a lot of mourning for change, their sorrow does nothing to reconcile them to God through Jesus Christ so that they can live in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The Israelis, and Jewish people everywhere, are pining away in the consequences of their sin because of turning from the will of God for them to accept Jeus as Lord and Christ. “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Acts 2:36
We can assess that Jesus the Christ has come to give us abundant life in the Spirit, “I have come that [you] may have life, and that [you] may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 The diagnosis is that today’s culture is pining away in their sin because they have no remorse or sorrow that leads them to repentance through Jesus Christ, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 We plan to live in the Holy Spirit who keeps our conscience alive and sensitive to be remorseful of wrongdoing so that we can come to God through Jeus Christ for reconciliation. We implement that plan by carrying our cross daily to follow in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus, the Man of Sorrows, who takes away the sin of the world. We know that plan is successful when we see our mourning in this sin-plagued world as a blessing, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:3-4
Testimony is shared among the faithful of God about how His word is true.
Some Jewish people live to talk to those faithful to God about the demise of Israel. “‘And you, son of man—will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters: that on that day one who escapes will come to you to let you hear it with your ears?” Ezekiel 24:25-26
Ezekiel was living his life faithfully to the will of God, and he spoke the word of God to the rebellious Israelites. When the calamity happened to the Israelites, that was foretold by the word of God, Ezekiel heard about it. The prophecy of Jerusalem being destroyed, the temple being desolated, and the sons and daughters slain all came to pass in the lifetime of Ezekiel. There was one among the Israelite survivors that shared his testimony with Ezekiel that the word of God had been fulfilled. God allowed Ezekiel to hear with his own ears that the word of God had been fulfilled. This would allow Ezekiel to rejoice in the faithfulness of God’s word by hearing it from the mouth of one who personally witnessed the prophetic event.
Today, God has taken from the Jewish people their stronghold, their joy and glory, the desire of their eyes, and that which they have set their minds on. They have made the State of Israel their power, glory, and kingdom instead of accepting the Kingdom of God through belief in Jesus the Christ. Our Lord Jesus teaches us that the Kingdom, power, and glory belongs to God, “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:13
The Jewish people have made the Jewish State of Israel more important than their need for Christ Jesus, and as a result, destruction is on them today and will be on them in the future. The land of Israel has been plagued with violence and war since the Lord brought them there in 1948. Their stronghold is anything but, as their joy and glory is far from their reach. They desired the State of Israel and set their minds on having it and now it is but a pot in which they are boiled in. The children of Israel are taken from them in that they are not raised to live in the will of God to receive Jesus Christ. The Jewish heritage as the people of God has been taken from Israel. As followers of Jesus Christ, this the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Bible, and now we are hearing it with our own ears.
In a sense, Ezekiel is a survivor of the calamity of the Israelites, and he has brought it to our ears the calamity of Israel of today, as He spoke through the will of God, “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.” Ezekiel 22:19-20 That is also said in this verse, “And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.” Ezekiel 20:34
We can assess that in this year 2024, we are witnessing and hearing about the fulfillment of Bible prophecy concerning the destruction of Israel. The diagnosis is that the Jewish people have set their mind on Israel as their joy, glory, and desire instead of setting their heart, mind, and soul on God through Jesus Christ. We plan to keep our ears, eyes, and heart open to hear the word of God concerning the prophecies He spoke concerning Israel and this present world system. We implement that plan by seeing and hearing the events of this world as they align with the prophecy spoken of in the Holy Bible. We know that plan is successful as we live for Jesus Christ because the “…testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy” Revelation 19:10 If we want to know where Israel and this world is within prophecy we only need to see where Jesus Christ is within Israel and the world.
Ezekiel’s mouth is opened to speak to the faithful of Israel as a testimony of God to them. “On that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you shall speak and no longer be mute. Thus you will be a sign to them, and they shall know that I am the Lord.’” Ezekiel 24:27
“On that day” refers to when the fulfillment of the word of God, spoken through Ezekiel, was fulfilled. He was able to open his mouth and speak to the one who had escaped from the calamity brought to the Israelites. In that way, Ezekiel would be a sign to them of the faithfulness of God to carry through with His word. Ezekiel is a sign to us today so that we can know that God is indeed Lord, and His word is truth, and the fulfillment of His word is in the world today.
Today, we can open our mouth to speak of the many prophecies of the word of God that are present right here and now for all the world to see. By sharing this word with receptive souls, we are a sign to them, and they shall know that the word of God is true, and Jesus Christ is Lord. Below are some undeniably fulfilled prophecies of the word of God,
- Jesus Christ has come in the flesh 2000 years ago to fulfill the prophecies of the Bible.
- The Jewish people have been gathered to the State of Israel in 1948, where God unleashes the fury of His judgment on them, as astutely described in Ezekiel 22:19-20, and Ezekiel 20:34.
- The global government of the United Nations was established in 1945, immediately after WW2, which brought the government of the beast with it, as described in Daniel 8 and also Revelation 17.
- The entity that has power over physiology to give people what to think, feel, do, and say is here. This entity enables the image of the beast to speak and live through people in every city around the world. The masses of the global culture are groomed to the mark of the beast by what they are given to say and do. This is described in Revelation 13.
- Global warming is here and is the Fourth Plagued mentioned in Revelation 16:8-9. The more powerful the United Nations becomes as the one world government the hotter and more intense the heat of global warming becomes. Global warming is instrumental in destroying the power center of the beast [Fifth Plague], rendering the world government and its global culture powerless. At this time, the entity with power over physiology to give people what to think, feel, say, and do will not be functioning. This leads to the Battle of Armageddon in the Sixth Plague, followed by the Day of the Lord and the return of Jesus Christ. Click for a full post on the Seven Plagues.
That is more than a mouthful to talk about to receptive souls who want to hear the Good News, to believe in God, to believe in Jesus Christ, and to live in the presence of the Holy Spirit. We are witnesses to the faithfulness of God to carry through with His word. The most important message we will ever share with anyone is the message of the Cross, which is, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 We share the testimony of the change that has occurred within us when we first believed in Him, we were blind but now we see. Jesus is Lord and Christ.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
