The news of Jesus Christ is perplexing to a Christless world. “Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by Him; and he was perplexed…” Luke 9:7a. Herod heard about Jesus Christ, and he was troubled, burdened, confused etc. That’s because under the Roman Empire any large gatherings were to be broke up and put down, and Herod would be held responsible for any turbulence in his jurisdiction. It is like the government of the mark of the beast that grows their own society but puts down any growth that is not spurred by them. People in places of authority, whether employment managers, housing managers, government agencies, etc. are responsible for their “jurisdiction.” The growth of the teachings of the Bible, along with the followers of Christ, are ostracized.
The teachings of Jesus are offensive to this Christless government. The reason that Herod was perplexed is “…because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead…” Luke 9:7b. John had a huge following and was put in prison by Herod for preaching against the unGodly lifestyle of Herod. John was later murdered by Herod at the request of Herod’s wife whom Herod had taken from his brother. This is actually happening nowadays as the teachings of the Bible come against the push to normalize casual sex, gay marriages, abortions, wrecking of the family as designed by God etc. The followers of Jesus Christ are considered to be bigoted, unloving, unsupportive, hateful, and inhumane. Already, the Gospel of Jesus has been imprisoned and Christ is dead in the churches. Those who govern and live by the mark of the beast would be very perplexed to hear that a legitimate threat had reemerged against their social network. It would be like a Christless employer hearing that the majority of employees had become followers of Jesus and refuse to live by the mark of the beast.
The popularity and highly esteemed opinion of Jesus is troubling to a Christless government. Everything said about Jesus Christ painted a picture of Him being highly esteemed by multitudes of people, “…and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.” Luke 9:8 Herod would definitely be concerned about the rising popularity of Jesus and the tumult brewing in his district, which the Romans would hold him responsible for. He would have some fears about what to do because if he imprisoned or killed Jesus, riots would break out and stir up the wrath of the Romans against Herod. If Herod did nothing, then the multitudes would grow, and they were not part of the established system of government. That also would stir up the wrath of the Romans against Herod. Like today, there is already global turbulence within this world governed by the mark of the beast. It’s in every city around the nation and every city around the world. We are seeing the birth of the global tribulation and the persecution of the people of God. The Romans mercilessly slaughtered Christians due to a lack of any other way of dealing with people filled with the Holy Spirit.
They seek to subdue Jesus Christ through diplomacy. Herod wanted to have a face-to-face meeting with Jesus Christ. “Herod said, “John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things?” So he sought to see Him.” Luke 9:9. Herod was looking for a way to subdue the phenomenal growth of the following of Jesus, he was looking for a solution to his problem. It would be like the leaders within the society of the mark of the beast seeking a way to eliminate the growth of the followers of Jesus Christ through diplomacy. Which they have done by dominating the churches with those who live for the mark of the beast, and by afflicting the people of God who enter their social network. That affliction comes through uncanny knowledge and heightened intuition which spews out disapproving words, ridicule, mockery, and physical acts. “It was granted to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given it over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship it, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb. ” Revelation 13:7-8
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
