Joseph represents how this world notices attractive people. One thing that I’ve noticed, as one who lives for the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the beauty of the world is always put forth in front of me. Those who govern by the mark of the beast associates the qualities of the Holy Spirit with the pleasantries of earthly things. For example, the smiles, fitness, and cuteness of girls are supposed to appeal to my nice and kind spirit, and often I am called “sweetie” in a condescending way. Jesus Christ’s charisma, attraction, and magnetism was of the Holy Spirit such that individual people were drawn to Him as much as large crowds. I imagine Joseph’s spirit was appealing as much as his handsome form and appearance. “Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.” Genesis 39:6
Joseph represents how the Spirit of Christ is exposed to sensual seduction. Over the years, it has become obvious that those who live by the mark of the beast wants me to be in the mode to pursue the sweetness of feminine attractiveness. When I had approached someone or something with an interest in having it, it was always conditional, or as one says, it had strings attached. The catch is that they expect me to lose my sweetness and to be rude, obnoxious, aggressive, and agitating to the Spirit of Jesus Christ. They want me to blaspheme God, discard the need for Jesus Christ, and to trample on the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was habitually exposed to various types of seductions in an attempt to mar and defame His name as the Son of God. We know how Jesus was as a boy at the age of twelve, and we know about Him from His three-year ministry during His early thirties. I imagine the twenty years between those times that Jesus experienced many malicious attempts of seduction from the opposite sex. The tactic is always to create a honey-trap to bring people into the ways of the world and to reject Jesus Christ. Joseph was exposed to a malicious seduction attempt, “And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife lifted up her eyes towards Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” Genesis 39:7
Like Joseph, in the Spirit of Jesus Christ we overcome the honey-trap of this world. I have learned over the years to refuse any seductive sweetness from this world to avoid the consequences of falling into a life of lawlessness, sex, drugs, violence, and rock-and-roll. I am enslaved within this world of sin, but I do not have to be enslaved to sin. Jesus Christ has said we are in this world but not of this world, and it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. He guides me day by day. There is no one greater in this world than Jesus Christ, and all things are in His hands. There is no way that Jesus would sin against God and allow Himself to be seduced by the pleasantries of this world. He overcame temptation to fulfill God’s purpose for Him to atone for sin as the sinless and Holy Lamb of God. Joseph also overcame seduction to remain righteous in the eyes of God. “But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” Genesis 39:8-9 Day after day, in the power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, we overcome the honey-trap of this world, like Jesus Himself did and like Joseph did, “So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.” Genesis 39:10
As with Joseph, the garment of the Spirit of Christ is clutched to draw us into the honey-trap. I’ve been in situations of being alone with girls who clutch to the sweetness and righteousness of the Holy Spirit to provoke sensual interactions. They almost made me feel guilty for walking away and not trying to take advantage of the seduction. All the while, they clutch to a moral righteousness to cover for their maliciousness. We wear the garment of the Holy Spirit and Joseph was clothed with the garment of God’s righteousness. “But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.” Genesis 39:11-12. Jesus Christ was confronted by malicious seduction when He was tempted with power and authority. I can imagine the Romans and the Pharisees wanted Him to lie with them within their ranks. Instead, Jesus Christ ran from them to suffer outside their gates of worldly power. Jesus was constantly confronted by those clutching to the garment of moral righteousness while accusing Him of blasphemy and sedition.
As with Joseph, the Spirit of Christ is falsely accused to condemn righteousness. Those who govern by the mark of the beast have their own brand of morality and righteousness, just like the Pharisees and Sadducees. It’s exactly what we see in the world today as they call the followers of Jesus Christ haters, bigots, and enemies of humanity. They are living by the mark of the beast in the name of humanism. The “community family” who lives by the mark of the beast are always in the right while those who reject their seductions are complained against. While clutching to their brand of moral righteousness, they use circumstances, out-of-context proofs, and false accusations to condemn the followers of Christ. They turn everything around to make guilty look right and to make right look guilty. That is exactly what they did to condemn, scourge, mock, and crucify Jesus. It is also what happened to Joseph who is symbolic, or a representation of Christ. “And so it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside, that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came into me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. And it happened, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.” Genesis 39:13-15
As happened to Joseph, this world imprisons the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Those who govern by the mark of the beast has zero tolerance for anyone who rejects the human world of sensual pleasures. They wear the clothing of humanism, which has no belief in anything beyond the offerings of this world. To them, the Spirit of Jesus Christ is nothing more than an emotional sentiment which forms a fleshly attachment to a person. To reject what this world has to offer is to reject the society who lives by the mark of the beast in the name of humanism. Those in authority, within this Christless world, are aroused to anger to know that someone within their family network has been offended by the righteousness of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. When the complaints are heard, the followers of Christ are isolated from the Christless social network. They are put in a prison to keep them away from offending others with the testimony of Jesus. That is what the world did to Jesus Christ when He was in this world in the flesh, and that is what this present world is doing to those who live for His testimony. It is what happened to Joseph who represents Jesus Christ, “So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.” Genesis 39:19-20
Similar to Joseph, the prisoners of this world have been committed into the hands of Jesus Christ. God was with Jesus Christ during His time here in this sin-plagued prison which is called earth. As is obvious, for over two thousand years Jesus has found favor in the eyes of those who oversee the inhabitants of the earth. Churches and the Bible are everywhere around the world as proof of that favor. Even in a world who detests Him, and is eliminating the work He has done, He still finds favor among the faithful few. Still, the inhabitants of the whole world are committed into His hand, and as a response he gave His life to atone for the sin of each one of us. Through His name, many will be vindicated to eternal life and many others will be condemned to eternal torment. Jesus is successful at all He does, which is to atone for sin, and He will be returning. Joseph is a representation of Jesus Christ because God had mercy on him when he was thrown in prison. All the other prisoners were committed into his hand, and he was successful at everything put under him. “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He caused him to be viewed with favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing. The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.” Genesis 39:21-23
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
